Happy to report I’ve now been to two theatre shows and absolutely everyone was wearing a mask. There weren’t even signs up insisting on it so I don’t think it was compulsory either. I like my people. I can’t say the same for the tube and bus journeys :(

I'm finding at work it's getting progressively worse. Less and less people with masks each day. I think on transport everyone knows you have to wear a mask, but they think you don't have to wear a mask indoors.
I ask people if they will wear a mask while they're in an enclosed room with me and they mostly agree, but I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle as there's just no support from the bosses so no one else asks the same. I don't know if I should continue asking or not!

I thought it was still compulsory in medical environments? When I went to the hospital there were signs all over saying you HAD to wear them!

It definitely is the case where I work, not that many of the patients are complying with it..

I would definitely still ask. Even if only some of them agree to it then it's better than nothing.

Yes it is, but watching my company's twitter feed recently they specifically say 'we won't refuse entry to anyone who doesn't want to wear one in England'. Rules are different for Scotland.

So me asking is just a bit of a one man mission as all other 30 odd staff don't ask (which to me is because of poor direction from management). But then I'm the one in a small enclosed room with the person. So I think I will continue while cases are high...

My throat has been sore and today I'm sneezing and my nose is running too. I think it's probably just a cold, maybe with the temperature drop, but I'm taking a test just in case. Supposed to go camping tomorrow so better to know.

Do you think any of you will wear masks during flu season etc, when this has all finally blown over?

that’s one reason Japan was alright wearing masks (at least during winter), they normally do when they get colds etc so they don’t spread it

It seems that with reopening all of the other bugs and infections that have been held back for 18 months are starting to circulate again too.

Very “book of stats” at this point but I know several people who have been struck down with mystery confirmed-non-Covid illnesses in the last couple of weeks.

Definitely more than usual for this time of year.

I don't think for a minute I'll continue wearing masks in places like theatres forever, but at the moment, I can't imagine not wearing one on buses for a LONG while.

I think I will on public transport. I know they don't give much protection to the wearer but it's worth a try to see if I get fewer colds.

I really don’t understand the logic behind removing mask obligation especially indoors and public transport! We clearly haven’t eradicated the thing yet, this is just stupid and premature.

Masks are still mandatory in public transport here and thank fuck for that. Everyone is masked, with the occasional mask below the nose of course :eyes:

I don't imagine ever not having a bottle of hand sanitiser in my bag or coat pocket, either.

I find it bizarre that England no longer mandates mask wearing while up here we still have to wear them in public indoor settings.

Oh yes that too. This shiz 4 lyf

If you’re worried about flu, boots opened their appointment system for flu jabs last week. Only about £10, and free for over 50s.

I have L’occitane hand sanitizer with a lovely verbena scent. I think that works out even more expensive than Molton Brown. :shy:

I have whichever one I can get free from samples sent by pharmaceutical reps.

Two of my work colleagues now have it, neither of them wearing masks when dealing with customers despite one of them shielding for most of last year as he has an autoimmune disease.

I'd like to continue wearing a mask in busy places like supermarkets in "bug season". But got a feeling no one else will and that I'll think "ah what's the point" and not bother...

I've become lazy about hand sanitizer knowing that Covid very rarely spreads that way but don't know about other colds etc and should probably get back in the habit.

Hmm wonder if that'd be worthwhile, not too worried for myself but the usual thing of living with parents who ain't getting any younger..

At my local opticians during the lockdown they wouldn’t even let you through the door without a mask or sanitising your hands. It was a queue outside and wait to be served situation. The thing is when you’re dealing with specialists like opticians, you just do as your told. Their workplace, their equipment, follow the rules. If opticians everywhere continued to enforce mask wearing, most people would comply I’m sure. The bosses are being pussies. It’s always someone else’s problem.

What makes me angry too is that it’s usually people in head offices or store managers, who deal with the public much less, making the decisions for their staff, who are on the front line essentially. Same for waiting staff and supermarket workers. Ugh.

Despite it being the advice of Public Health England and NHS England to carry on wearing face masks in healthcare settings, one of the surgeries where I work had NINETEEN occasions of verbal outbursts against receptionists in Freedom Day week. That's not just people questioning it, but patients who have been abusive.

At least in that surgery the patients are getting a warning letter from the practice.

Warning letter? Fucking ban them!

you want to throw a hissy fit because your mask is a bit tight around your ears? Fine go find another doctor who will serve you then. I wonder how polite they’ll be when they’re a week from slipping into a coma because nobody will give them their repeat prescription.

This is the thing isn't it. That and greedy bosses who just want money at whatever cost. The fact that we're a big company is the reason it's not enforced I'm sure, all smaller places would no doubt still have the rule in place and everyone following it. Staff must wear PPE to protect everyone else, which I've no problem with at all, but why does the opposite not apply? Why do staff lives not matter??

That's capitalism. I certainly feel like nothing more than a sack of meat with a chair. That said, they've been quite strict in here and people have been on disciplinaries for breaching the guidelines.

So yesterday was the day everyone was saying we'd see a spike in the statistics because of "Freedom Day". Am I right in thinking there was a slight rise in cases but not by much?

If the fall in cases is due to people deciding not to take tests in the first place (as they just have a sniffle and don't want the risk of self-isolation) then freedom day won't have any impact on the figures at all...
