Iceland 2020: Daði og Gagnamagnið -Think About Things

All you need is enough people to like it to get it points. People in Eastern Europe have the internet. It's a bit of a diss to Eastern Europeans that say they wouldn't get it. It's hardly that abstract.

Eurovision looks and music are fairly homogenised these days.

I’m genuinely trying to find examples of Eurovision entries that were wildly more popular with Western voters than Eastern ones.

The best I’ve come up with is The Ark in 2007, who were top 4 in every Nordic nation + the UK, but literally did nothing anywhere else.

Obviously the reverse tends to be more common with Western voters generally shunning big Balkan ballads and major Russian stars.

Doesn’t it feel like everyone is in a bit of a stalemate about who would’ve won? The perfs would’ve changed everything and we’ll never get to see them.

I mean it’s fun to speculate but the tone is getting more pointed these days :D

NO, ITALY!
NO!! ICELAND!!!
NOOOO!!! ITALYYY!!! *smashes wine glass*

Don't worry Moopyvision this afternoon will resolve it once and for all.

I think this has a good chance of going top 40 this week, or at least on the first midweek flashes.

Currently #29 on iTunes and #71 on Spotify, but the latter moves up to the low 40s if you discount most of the 25 tracks ahead from the entirety of the new 1975 and KSI albums (only 3x tracks from each are allowed to chart, correct?)

To look at his actual UK streaming numbers since he cracked the Spotify top 200 on the Friday before 'Eurovision'.

15/5: 50,862
16/5: 67,736 (+16,874)
17/5: 98,324 (+30,588)
18/5: 99,688 (+1,364)
19/5: 97,364 (-2,324)
20/5: 95,065 (-2,299)
21/5: 95,292 (+227)
22/5: 114,780 (+19,488)

Daily Spotify Chart run:
180-93-51-54-57-67-61-71

Pretty stable and a big leap yesterday, reason to be optimistic that it may yet catch on.

And back up to #58 on today's update :disco:

#34 in the midweeks today. Should be safe for top 40 with how stable it's being on Spotify

What's the last Eurovision song that made the Top 40? Excluding UK entries but perhaps they don't get that high either.

This making waves after the show as an actual hit is pretty unique however.

Heroes reached #11 in 2015.

A UK entry hasn’t gone top 40 since Molly in 2014.

Such a shame this will probably never reach its full potential.

2010s chart entries:

Lena - Satellite: #30
Blue - I Can: #16
Jedward - Lipstick: #40
Loreen - Euphoria: #3
Emmelie DeForest - Only Teardrops: #15
Common Linnets - Calm After The Storm: #9
Conchita Wurst - Rise Like a Phoenix: #17
Molly - Children of the Universe: #23
Sanna Nielsen - Undo: #40
Måns Zelmerlöw - Heroes: #11
Dadi Freyr: Think About Things: #34*

Weren’t Jedward in there somewhere too?

Stays at #3 here too
That's so mad. Is it getting radio play over there?
Yeah, a few radio hosts have really taken to it I think. And it doesn’t take MUCH to get a hit in a country this size I suppose...

Current Irish Top 4:
1. Terry Wogan - Terry Wogan Memoirs
2. Lesley Roy - Story of my Life
3. Icelandic hipster - Think About Things
4 (RE) Dustin the Turkey - Irelande Douze Point

No Niamh Kavanagh?? Even the Irish can’t stomach her.

Doing a UK tour next April that isn't just a show in London but also includes dates in BRISTOL and LEEDS

That will be pre Eurovision. They'll be semi famous by the time they hit Rotterdam up next May. I hope they win.
