Okay, probably not a classic but what I feel is a rather unfairly maligned song that suffered from the whole rigmarole from the Super Bowl. It’s barely got a million streams on Spotify so clearly not remembered at all…but I’d say this is, and always has been, really rather good.

MAID FOR NOW

JALW get a a soft 7 from me. It’s not garbage but certainly not a classic Janet song.

I remember buying the single when I worked near to an HMV and went in on a Monday to sift through the new releases. Decent if not spectacular, with a back catalogue of such great singles it’s not surprising it’s a little lost.

I’m not on the PC but from memory quite a few album tracks have double or triple the streams of this which seems quite odd. Possibly her most forgotten single with the public based on stats?

There wasn’t an obvious lead single from Damita Jo (although I really enjoy -most- of the album) but this wasn’t it. I thought All Night would’ve done a bit better but nothing was going to land post Super Bowl. Even this did great initially in the US but stalled right after the controversy.

I think they pulled it almost immediately post Super Bowl and moved on to I Want You/All Night right after with the album. Also the video was never released in America or played on MTV/VH1 so it never got major exposure beyond the first week or two. That and the fact that it’s already near the tail end of the album probably explain the low streams.

God I love it so. Also the moody Peter Rauhofer remix. I don't even get to cum on the album edit, which is a tad drab in comparison to the spruced up radio/single edit and said "fun for the fru-hoo-oooh-hoo-uits" remix (both heavy climaxes).

Even with the “blacklisting”, she did a successful double host/musical act episode of SNL and still ignored this, choosing All Night (Don’t Stop) and Strawberry Bounce instead.

To be fair, All Night is probably the obvious HIT of the album. Actually did alright given the circumstances, but probably would’ve been quite big if not for the whole horrendous embargo on her at the time.

a 9, maybe some days a 10. I love it but I don't always cherry pick it if I'm playing highlights of Damita Jo. it's cute next to gorgeous.

I never understood what she was thinking with this, much less what anyone saw in it. I love a bland bop but it’s just… bad.

All For You was a creative step down from Janet. and The Velvet Rope, but following it with a lead single from her next album that was even more edgeless and… dare I say tacky? was such a misstep. I think it would have been a flop with or without Superbowl, albiet probably not such a crushing one.

Should definitely have led with I Want You for a Got Till It’s Gone style creative statement, or All Night for her best shot at an actual hit.

I agree with this entirely. I Want You, still one of the best things she ever did, should have been the lead single. It was a creative side step lead single the same way both That’s The Way Love Goes and Got Til It’s Gone were.

But the Super Bowl drama would have meant anything she did would have bombed so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Just a Little While is alright, but was never lead single material. The album itself is really good- a step up from the average All For You.

I Want You first makes more sense- radio was going in a more R&B direction at that time anyway.
