Tisch's morning thread made me realise we don't actually appear to have a thread for this seminal album, which turned 50 this week.

There are other Joni records that resonate with me more (Hejira is forever my #1) and the big hitters from this are very overplayed/overcovered at this point, but it's kind of undeniable nevertheless.

10 All I Want
10 My Old Man
09 Little Green
09 Carey
10 Blue
09 California
09 This Flight Tonight
10 River
10 A Case of You
11 The Last Time I Saw Richard

The end of The Last Time I Saw Richard is just devastating :(

I'm gonna blow this damn candle out
I don't want nobody comin' over to my table
I got nothing to talk to anybody about
All good dreamers pass this way some day
Hidin' behind bottles in dark cafes

Dark cafes
Only a dark cocoon before I get my gorgeous wings
And fly away
Only a phase, these dark cafe days

And yes of course it's one of the best albums of all time. Forever in my all time top 10.

Such a great record, and such an important one too. Amazing how it holds up after 50 years. I discovered it in the 90s after Tori covered ‘A Case Of You’, which is such a clever title.

It's pretty impressive that she's still kicking at all after 50+ years of chain smoking!

Not to mention the MORGELLONS.

I loved an interview with her years ago when a journalist came to her house and was passive aggressively complaining about her smoking (you should know the deal when taking this assignment) and Joni lighting up informing him she will smoke in her own house if she wants to.

This was on my shortlist for the first moopy album club, along with "Tapestry" and "Nick Of Time" :disco:

I appreciate her moral stance, but I do wish her material was on Spoify...
