Anyway having rewatched a few episodes of Bo Selecta recently, I feel like if you need to make major edits to make it passable in the current cultural landscape (whatever the fuck that means, I guess “what people write complaints about now”), then maybe you should just leave it in the past and make something better

It's a fine line really. I have no problem with sketches that take the piss out of racists etc. But when it's done in the context of a show that features genuinely racist sketches, it hardly lends credibility to the argument. Plus, when you're outwardly using racist and xenophobic language, there is a question whether it's being used to make a point or being used for a cheap laugh. I'm pretty sure that some of the audience get the message, but most just think it's funny. That's hardly subversive humour, which I think Lucas & Walliams THINK they are projecting, but ironically are just contributing to the problem.
