And so we must sadly lose Linda Bengtzing just before the final two.
A graduate of the Fame Factory (Sweden's more successful answer to Fame Academy) in the early 00s, Linda made her Melfest debut in 2005 with the peppy Alla Flickor, a lyrically quirky schlager banger that set the tone for her entire career. She was a regular presence in the 2000s, with further big hits in 2006, 2008 and 2011. To be honest, E Det Fel På mig is probably the weakest of her four finalists, and her surprise victory in that heat (at the cost of Cornelia Jakobs' old band Love Generation) allegedly sent Christer Björkman into the mother of queeny strops.
Truth be told, Linda was always a bit of a bridesmaid though, never quite finding the momentum to contend for the win despite her very outspoken hunger for it.
Sadly after this, the wheels really fell off. Her 2014 entry Ta Mig was actually a beautifully realised stab at artistic growth, but Sweden wasn't ready for its subtle charms and she crashed out in 5th. Since then she's been chasing the schlager dragon to no avail, with NQs in 2016, 2020 and 2022. We still love you though Linds!
3rd: Linda Bengtzing - E det fel på mig?
4th: Helena Paparizou - Survivor
5th: Pernilla Wahlgren - Jag vill om du vågar
6th: Jessica Andersson - Party Voice
7th: Lina Hedlund - Victorious
8th: Anna Book - Himmel för två
