I'm not mad at this shortlist tbh

Arlo Parks - ‘Collapsed In Sunbeams’
Berwyn - ‘Demotape/Vega’
Black Country, New Road - ‘For the First Time’
Celeste – ‘Not Your Muse’
Floating Points - ‘Promises’
Ghetts - ‘Conflict Of Interest’
Hannah Peel - ‘Fir Wave’
Laura Mvula - ‘Pink Noise’
Mogwai – ‘As The Love Continues’
Nubya Garcia - ‘SOURCE’
SAULT – ‘Untitled (Rise)’
Wolf Alice - ‘Blue Weekend’

The Mogwai nod feels a little WTF, as does Celeste although I haven't listened to her album so it might be AMAZING!

Anyway, Floating Points are absolutely MY winner, but a second Wolf Alice win would also be WELL DESERVED!

I haven't got any of these :o I'd have to agree Floating Points are the best of that bunch though.

The Floating Points album is great. Probably my favourite of the year so far however I think it’ll be a long shot for the Mercury Prize.

The Floating Points album feels like something that will still be listened to in 100 years from now. It's just perfection.
Doubt it will win, but it will probably end up the most beloved album from the shortlist.

For contrast, here's the popjustice list -

Griff - Cambodia Black Hole
Laura Mvula - Got Me
Bree Runway - HOT HOT
Georgia Twinn - I Don't Mind
CMAT - I Don't Really Care For You
Dua Lipa - Levitating (feat. DaBaby)
RAYE - Love of Your Life
DJ Danny (Danny L Harle) - On a Mountain
Sophie and the Giants - Right Now
Pale Waves - She's My Religion
Little Mix - Sweet Melody
Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure?

As always, some STRANGE choices in my opinion. Bree Runway or Danny L Harle FOR ME!

Floating Pants, more like it.

Arlo Parks is my favourite on there - the only hesitation would be that I expect her to outdo herself on the next album. Black Country New Road can fuck off, so can Mogwai. I need to hear Hannah Peel - a few people have pointed me towards her.

It's interesting that SAULT have been so secretive about their identity and yet still put themselves in for this. Will there be a BIG REVEAL?

Some good albums on the list but I’ve got to go with Laura Mvula, I want good things for her.
