By popular demand!

Her fifth album from 2007, this playlist includes a few of the bonus tracks that were strewn around various editions: the first 12 tracks are the album "proper".

Wanna piece of Britney? Join us at 8pm

By the way, I'm going to patch the Thursday listens for the moment and stick with Moopy royalty on a Tuesday. I felt a bit awkward scheduling against the NHS clap and we do have a lot going at the minute. Once a week feels like enough. Maybe when we get to the end of FF we can add one on a Sunday.

Planned for future listens:

ABBA - The Visitors
Mariah Carey - Butterfly
Kylie - Impossible Princess or Fever
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love

...and various other suggestions. Feel free to add more suggestions here.

I mentioned a couple of suggestions for future listens in the Bowie thread last week so will repeat them here, where they might get a wider audience.

Garbage - Version 2.0
Erasure - Chorus
Arcade Fire - Funeral

Yup - I have all these on the list at home. Garbage is surefire. In fact, I think I'll replace Peej with Garbage when I get home. Erasure are an excellent choice, Arcade Fire deffo has potential.

I suggest:

Lady Gaga - The Fame and The Fame Monster
Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
Lana Del Rey - Born To Die and Paradise
Steps - Tears On The Dancefloor

Oh loves I think I might be busy at 8

But i'll be there in spirit :disco:

Gimme More, and the whole album really, is like being spurred on by various stimulants to go with the hottest guy you've ever seen in real life and in porn even though you know he has 1 or 5 STDs. That any album could out skank State of Mind is remarkable.

We really are owed a deluxe remaster with all the "outta this world" outtakes.

I suggest Blondie - Autoamerican or Eat to the Beat and Cbristina Aguilera - Bionic

Anyway, getting in the mood for Blackout *puts on ratty extensions and unflattering lingerie*

6. Glory
7. Oops! I did it again
8. Baby One More Time

the last two are pretty much even for me. I enjoy about 50% of those albums , the rest is not particularly listenable for me. BJ gets a mark down I guess for having a different vocalist on the majority of the tracks.

the top six are varying degrees of very good. The top three are in a league of their own.

BJ (tee hee) is abysmal and it's miles far worse than BOMT just because the latter's singles run was pretty epic even though Sometimes isn't that great and FTBOMBH is her least memorable single but Baby, Crazy and Born are undeniable :disco: plus throw in Soda Pop just for the sheer ridiculousness of it.

BJ's lows are arguably worse ("Don't Cry", "Brightest Morning Star", and "Chillin With You" anyone?) But "Work Bitch", "Alien", "Til It's Gone", "Passenger", "Hold on Tight", even blatant second rate Avicii rip-off "Now That I Found You" ,are enjoyable.

Why are we discussing Myah Marie's songs here?

Whenever it was released, it was, you know, very ahead of its time and whatnot.
"I can proudly say it was ahead of its time, to be honest. It wasn't so commercialized. You had to really be a music lover, be a true fan of music and the love of being open to really appreciate that record. It's just a special piece in my body of work that will forever live on. The older the record gets the more people will come to appreciate it actually and check it out." :disco:

Blackout really reshaped the pop music landscape. Along with FutureSexLoveSounds and Loose, it was the perfect segue from R&B dominance back towards dance/pop, and of course, pioneered the concept of the dead-eyed slut diva, a groove which has been ridden hard in the decade and a half since its release.

It also promised an artist Britney could have evolved into had they not adjusted her meds, and engineered a pure pop comeback. I would have been here for a "distressed dance diva", cyphering her way through experimental pop cuts with minimal vocal effort.

Yes! An ENTIRE CAREER of Moroder ft. Britney - Tom's Diner

I was just thinking about Tom's Diner. This is exactly who I wish she'd become, musically speaking.

Not that my morning run is not infinitely improved by THAT final minute of Work Bitch. But everything else released after '09 with her as a main artist failed to live up to the promise of Blackout.

Criminal certainly doesn't live up to the PROMISE of Blackout, but it's still a CAST-IRON CAREER HIGHLIGHT to these ears. Especially when Diane Abbott criticised her for glorifying gun crime in the video after the London riots :disco:

The irony being that Bionic SHOULD have been her Blackout. Ultimately, Britney probably ended up having better albums over the course of their first decade. Stripped was as much of an anomaly as tonight's album of choice.
