And I suppose Amazon, Hulu etc too.

i was surprised at the popularity on here of the High Score popularity, I wondered if people make a habit of watching streaming documentaries.

I’ve just finished The Movies That Made Us, which was quite sweet. They managed to find a nice personal story behind it all, even if there are rarely the main actors.

they covered Dirty Dancing, Ghostbusters, Home Alone and Die Hard.

ghostbusters is the only one I was particularly interested in, but the others were really watchable too, I hadn’t really thought about the making of them at all

The only Netflix ones I’ve watched are MADDY MCCANN (rip) and the Knock Down The House one with AOC in :disco:

Ooh has anyone seen Abstract, the *something* of Design?

HATE some of the designers but other ones have been really interesting

OMG yes, Tickled is amazing :D It was even better for me because the one of the people (well, "people") involved had the exact same name as my mum, so I kept laughing every time they mentioned it.

Yes! I really like that series. It's very hit and miss, but the good episodes are really great.

Someone had your name in a Louis Theroux program the other day.

Can someone quote this when Console Wars makes it to the UK plz.

I really liked McMillions with a good reveal at the end. Was amazing the guy stealing the tickets had become bigger than the mafia. Just a shame that like most documentaries now it went on for far too many episodes. Could have all been wrapped up nicely in 3.

Oh Console Wars and Hi Score sound interesting, I will definitely have to check it out. I am right into my Retro Gaming, I've been a subscriber to Retro Gamer magazine since the beginning, my loft is full of boxed of it!

What is Tickled about?

because there are a weird amount of Japan Pornhub videos that involve tickling young men wearing pants

Watched American Murder: The Family Next Door and it was truly disturbing. Also the way they were able to construct the whole thing from Facebook videos and body cams is interesting.

Yes, that was shocking.

Yes, that was shocking.

I found myself believing him in the beginning and was thinking to myself she seems a bit unstable maybe she took the kids and ran away like a Gone Girl situation. What a fucking psychopath.

I watched it as well. The most interesting bit was how they victim shamed her.

Her Facebook addiction though

How weird, I was JUST watching some docs last night.

One about the future of drinking water, Brave Blue World, which I don’t remember bookmarking but turned out to be a celeb wankfest about how Jaden Smith and Matt Damon are really committed to causes and blah blah, I switch it off

the other was Night on Earth, made by the same people as Planet Earth II, but the narration was so annoying. Just making everything so dramatic and intense (to an almost sexual level of emoting).

I don’t particular care about this brave cheetah’s story that you just made up

Song Exploder is alright though. I’ve only listened to the REM and Alicia Keys ones, I wish I knew the songs they chose more.

it’s only 4 eps too, I hope they do the Robyn one next time

Yeah, I really liked the REM one. I didn't know any of the other songs, so didn't bother. I hope they release more of those with really well known songs.

But also the biggest crime are the names, Shannan, Nichole and Nickole. Truly tragic.

Was also disturbed by American Murder: The Family Next Door. It did feel oddly intrusive to read her back and forth text messages the hours/days before her death and intimacy issues. But I guess her family authorized it.

Other crime docs I enjoyed recently:

The Price of Honor (Amazon Prime)
Abducted in Plain Sight (Netflix)

the Alicia Keys one was good too, even though I didn’t know the song. Her speaking voice is so sexy, I could listen to it all day. She seems so nice too

I've been watching The Vow on HBO, I don't know if it counts, it's one of these true crime documentary series. it's actually the first true crime that I've watched. it's about an iffy cult so the subject's interesting but BY HEAVENS does it drag out. it could've been told in four strong episodes but we get NINE. and does that even wrap things up? no, we're getting a SECOND SEASON :manson:

I’ve seen a lot of people annoyed with The Vow and yes it’s slow but I enjoyed it. Maybe cause I watched it weekly. But I’ll be interested in season 2 with evil Keith and Nancy taking the spotlight.

There’s a Starz 4 episode that started the same night The Vow ended that people are happier with (it looks like it has India as the focus).

it's all about, yes, EVIL NANCY!

I also really liked the woman that was not Bonnie (Sarah?) but the rest could have been anyone

did Dalai Lama pull back his statement? what a deluded BOOMER

Is Chef's Table a documentary? I guess - but yeah. Pretty much all the food documentaries on Netflix are GREAT. Street Food is awesome, too.

I guess this is a doc, but “Pretend it’s a city”, a sort of interview special limited series about Fran Lebowitz by Martin Scorsese.

I’ve not had much experience with New York but it’s engaging and smart, I’m not LOLing but it’s watchable

Anyone else watching This Is Pop? I’m thoroughly enjoying it so far. It’s taking interesting storylines from our living memory, which I’m sure is most of the appeal for me.

the Swedish pop one was great, the country one was interesting, they’ve all been very watchable

For some reason the 1998 Holocaust documentary The Last Days has been remastered and turned up on Netflix. It won the Oscar that year so it's one to watch and tick off for my Awards tracking app.

I have watched all except for the country music one (I hope it contains some Shania Twain in it, otherwise it will probably be unbearable).
And yes, it’s really very well made.

its all about pop crossovers, if anything it’s a bit of a fuck you to the Country industry that are pretty snobbish. Just get through the early years stuff and it’s all good.

weirdly they mention Taylor Swift several times but don’t really say much about her, more about the fab females who went before her, like Dolly, Wynonna and Shania

Ah Dids, thanks for this. I’m feeling a lot less threatened now :D
I might give it a try then
