Oh my gosh at that :D

I wonder if they'll do a patch? The kids won't notice, but it's a shame that half the game is set to look like that. I'm not of the camp that Nintendo have been "lazy" here as this is quite the extra lap and it does leave these tracks ripe for retro remakes on 9 with possibly even more impact now, but the old however-many-old-systems duct-taped together meme came to mind many times playing through this morning.

It feels fast and the clouds look nicer up close, but visually it is the worst thing here (which was what my comment was about).

This is a bit past the event so I didn’t want to start a thread, but I’ve recently finally got through Super Mario 3D World or whatever it’s called, the Cat Mario remake on Switch. It was alright, a little irritating at times, Mario seems to be in half gravity and the depth perception isn’t the best.

BUT having completed it last week I started on Bowser’s Fury, the sort of bonus game with it, and what a fascinatingly sinister game :o

Basically a sort of open world mini puzzle solving game, with the constant looming apocalypse of a GIGANTIC possessed satanic Bowser raining hell down every 5 minutes.

Anyone else played it?

well it's over.gif

Yeah Bowser's Fury was interesting, VERY leftfield for a Mario game in some ways, sort of like Mario Sunshine with Majora's Mask's imminent catastrophe. Not a long game to finish, but there is a lot more in there to collect all the Cat shines.

Maybe now I can stop having apocalypse dreams like I have been all week :D

I've never played it despite owning it.

Kirby is (pretends to be shocked gif) adorable. I laughed after flattening foes as a set of stairs and can only imagine what else is coming - it is pure Banjo meets 3D World and Skylanders for me. Only did the first 2 levels. In a rare surge of ambition, I took the plunge and didn't opt for easy mode. Not died yet :o

Having a tricky week so I decided to buy the Kirby game - it should arrive by Friday so I'll give my thoughts then.

This probably increases the likelihood that we'll get the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD remasters on the Switch, at least!

I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about the next proper Mario game! It can't ALL be remasters and sports games, can it?

I have received Kirby and played a little bit tonight, and I would already die for Bandana Waddle Dee:

I'm loving Kirby so much, just finished the ice world ending in the first fight against
King Dedede, as much of a ROTTEN OLD QUEEN as ever :disco:

I'm not sure how many worlds there are after this, but I'm getting late-middle vibes in terms of how the story is going. There seems to be so much side stuff that I've not really delved into yet as well, so we'll see how I get on with that. I already have Chrono Cross preloaded and it unlocks on Thursday, so I must be clear before then :tongueout:

I put off tackling the ice world as I thought it looked bland. As soon as I entered the first level I just thought it was gorgeous and loved the music. I've said it before, but some of this is so majorly Banjo (I've just finished the 2nd ice level with the crates that gave a distinct flashback nod that had my senses sparkling with nostalgia). I'm enjoying not playing too much of it, rather a few levels at a time, or one new one and going back to get what I missed first time.

I finished it today :D Well I finished the main story, there's at least one major postgame thing to do as well as stuff like the coliseum and upgrading all the abilities. This isn't a big spoiler but I love how jarring the semi-realistic environments are compared to the cutesey characters, particularly later on when things get a bit scary.

The plot in Kirby games, particularly later ones, is really fucking dark :D They just dress it up all cutesy but it's as BLEAK as Silent Hill.

Star Allies' last boss was some sort of NIGHTMARISH creature called THE DESTROYER OF THE UNIVERSE or something!

I was reading somewhere that was suggesting Kirby is actually the VILLAIN as he goes around sucking up all sorts of shite and taking on their powers

They are shining a mirror on the horrors of modern day post apocalyptic shopping centres. How many times have we been burned, frozen out or had spiky debris roll us over and wanted to do it back? Kirby quite literally rises above it all.

Loving that the first desert level immediately gave me Journey vibes, and that it opened up into, well, a proper sandbox area. I don't like that I can't go back and re-do previous locations yet though. I got excited thinking "oh finally that desert casino level" until I realised that was Papar Mario Origami, which I've not got around to getting just yet. Anyway, I think there is such huge potential for a sequel in the future (much like Rabbids, which I'm still very much excited to see more of).

Well I can't say I'm excited for Mario Golf 64 to be the next in the N64 drip feed series. I'd say surely they can't repeat this nonsense on their next console, but I think we know what to expect by now. Just give us Diddy Kong Racing already. My N64 console has started cutting out and I'm getting concerned about it. Although it might prompt me to finally look into getting a modded one..

There's been a bit of chatter in the past few days about an apparent leak of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance emulators for the Switch. No word on when they're coming officially (or what tier of the online service they'll be on), but it's nice to know they're on the way.

Splatoon 2's very good Octo Expansion DLC is now part of NSO's expansion pack. I do hope the next Switch does away with the NSO tiers, but the package has ended up being a much better deal than it started as. Now to watch the new Splatoon 3 trailer to announce the September release (first Xeno 3 and now this).

And I guess new Mega Drive games too are worth mentioning.

• Space Harrier II
• Shining Force II
• Sonic the Headgehog Spinball

Hilarious that the "in game links" at the end almost entirely obscure the reveal (09.09 how Dreamcast of them). Not the best trailer just showing one turf match game - I'll still be playing it obsessively of course, but as someone who has played over 2000 hours of both entries so far, I still don't even think this one is warranted based on what we've seen.

Now to play some Kirby theme Tetris 99.

I'm watching the other upload of an "extended turf war gameplay" and it's the same footage - did they mess it up?

Now, what is interesting about that grapple hook is that you are launched back to your starting point after it. I use the roller with beacon as sub-weapon and here it could be used very well indeed if you have enough ink to pull it off (as in plant one before being hoisted back). They'd better not do away with beacons. I like to be left completely alone to just cover ink and they are so useful for my play style.

Why don’t we have a Kirby thread after all the chat?

Anyway I’ve been chugging through it, it’s cute but I’m not really LIVING, feel like I’m playing Crash Bandicoot or something. Getting all the waddle dees is not going to happen - I’ve been good with the hidden ones but some of those secret quests are booger.

I might enjoy it more if I play a level and then the challenges that open, because at the moment I’m spamming the levels, then doing about 10 challenges, it’s sort of grindy

The next Direct is upon us. 22 June.

And focused solely on Xenoblade Chronicles 3 :D

Oh lord, why not just air the proper Direct and in the Xeno segment tease more info to come in a 20 minute spesh next week? Although I will say that I did like the last trailer a lot more than I was expecting to.
