This is song TWO out of TWO so far in this campaign where the verses slowly build onto a banging chorus that NEVER ARRIVES and instead you get some PLINKY-PLONKY NOISES. Is this a NEW THING in music that I've missed or what?!

There IS a chorus... it's the bit you're referring to as the build up. It works for me. There's a full verse-bridge-chorus-instrumental-verse-bridge-chorus-instrumental...

Anyway, 'I'd rather be dry but at least I'M alive'. Unlike the haterz.

I am fully obsessed with Rain On Me now. I love how it perfectly blends the Ariana-ishness of the light-and-airy chorus with Gaga's signature deadpan baroque spoken-word interventions. It fits both of them so well. It has already lodged itself amongst the Telephones and When You Believes, rather than the Can't Remember to Forget Yous (NB. I had to google Rihanna Shakira duet to even remember the name of the song).

I also re-watched the Telephone video last night and it was interesting to see how human Gaga has allowed herself to get in her videos. In Telephone, she was a deadpan, robotic, femme fatale. In Rain On Me, she's emoting for her life, dancing around like a Spice Girl (ie. badly in Buffalo heels), and smiling and hugging Ariana. It's interesting that while she's pulled back enormously from fan interactions and interviews in recent years, she has opened up far more in her music.

This has actually increased its lead in the UK midweeks to almost 10k so #1 debut seems like it's on lock. :disco: It had a great 4th day on Spotify.

This just goes to show how the global charts are never fully GAY-PROOF :disco:

In a decade that was dominated by faux-straight trap rap (:zombie:), blood curdling male vocalists like Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran (:zombie: :zombie:) and a variety of garbage one-hit-wonders, this is gonna be refreshing af.

I actually think this is penetrating the teen market - helped by Ariana, the video and a HOT WEATHER WEEKEND

(lets be honest, the GAY MARKET isn't exactly renowned for creating HUGE CHART HITS :D )

Is Rain On Me BIG ON TIK TOK yet?

Just how "different" is it gonna be? Cuz that backing track sounds amazing. Why would she throw that away?

The production here is much better than on the final version. Love the 90s sound.
:D it literally sounds like it was made using two chords from Garage Band. It's clearly just a cheap, quick backing track to demonstrate the song, how can you think this is better than what we got?

I'd have kept the cooing in the verses but that's it.

Bitch, I KNOW it’s a demo. But it sounds just like one of THOSE tracks from the 90s. It sounds very faithful to that whole sound. The song could have been so much better if she had stuck to that vibe.

That one line is THE ultimate answer to anyone/anything bothering you:
“RAIN. ON. ME.” *said in a guttural tone*
:disco:

Gonna try this today with my boss.

I always find the lethargic pace at which US radio moves quite baffling.

A song can come out, get immediately B- or A-listed on various stations and within 3 weeks be the UK airplay #1. I'm guessing US radio is incredibly conservative and waits to see the "callout scores" of every song that comes out before daring to put it on heavy rotation. What a bore though. Just fucking play new music.

This is kind of how it goes, @POP! can back me up. If Stupid Love hadn't peaked so early they would STILL be peddling it on radio and would probably wait for Rain On Me until early July. Look what happened with Dua, Don't Stop Now although sent to US radio in December it peaked until April hence why releasing Physical sort of backfired.
also, looking at the Billboard Top 10 you can see which songs are doing better on streams than on radio play (a la Rain On Me which is relatively "new") and can remain stagnant for months because there's always a Post Malone song from 6 months ago that won't die. :zombie:

Yep, and there is no really unifying “a list” “b list” etc or prominent radio station that can dictate a songs airplay success like Radio 1 in the UK. A song has to infiltrate dozens and dozens of key pop stations which may take several months. Call out scores may also slow the process.

US charts were much more interesting in 2007-2014 when sales had an actual impact... and pop females had more of a presence as opposed to all novelty /tiktok hits. Although “rain on Me” doing so well out of the gate gives me hope.

OMG the tits-out dirty-gay-dive bar remix I didn't know I needed is HERE!

No need to pass the poppers, they are already firmly attached to my nostrils :disco: :disco:

Aware I'm ENTIRELY talking to myself here :D But I now 100% prefer this to the original, which just sounds LIMP in comparison.

Gags needs to show the gays some compassion and make it OFFICIAL!
