The Moopy Celebrity "Cancellation" Tracker

Yes I recall most of the other housemates THREATENING TO LEAVE if they didn’t warn/remove Bear and his friends :D

Of course he went on to win that too :manson:
That and Helen Wood really were the DEATH KNELL as far as I'm concerned.

I mean there IS an argument to be made that the majority of Trump's actions weren't THAT beyond the norm for recent US presidents, his presidency was a natural end point of years of Republican Party strategy, and that some of the initial liberal anger about him could be down to him being boorish and evil instead of articulate and evil

I don't know who Lee Hurst is, and I'm not that desperate to know since he seems like an asshole, but this is so so true

Soju (Drag Race season 11) has been accused of sexual assault. This is quite grim reading, just a warning:

So I know Soju's designer friend, so I reached out to him about this. Not sure if it even means much. but this is what he said:
The Kev guy?

Yea, these always seem to start with “I said I didn’t want to do anything. But then I still decided to sleep in their bed with them, and get drunk, and give them a blowjob”

I don’t understand some people’s mind set. This hasn’t ever happened to me, so I can’t really judge the person.

But seems a bit misleading.

I know its your friend and not you but WHAT? Kevin was clearly raped. Getting in someone's bed or car is not consent.

"This hasn’t ever happened to me, so I can’t really judge the person" is such bullshit. Who is he not judging? Soju? He also hasn't raped me but I still "judge" him.

Or is he not "judging" the victim. Because why would he judge him? I, and I assume many others, have kissed/blown people I didn't want to have sex with.

Sorry this is so inarticulate but your friend sounds like an enabler.

I mean Soju IS a source of business for him lol

Very much a 90s relic comedian who was on TV a lot for a few short years but has barely been on anywhere in the last 20 years. Just known for owning a series of comedy clubs which probably kept him going for quite a while after the TV work dried up.

Talking of which, I caught a new episode of Mock The Week last night for the first time in ages. Now that is a show that needs to end.

My Latino friend got called a "S**c" by someone who LOBBIES for Amazon, and now he's getting dragged on Facebook.

My friend wants comments, so feel free :D

Oh, I dunno, I love Rhys James. Catherine Bohart is brilliant and it was a solid first appearance from her, although not trailblazing.

I like a lot of the comedians individually, but the level of humour on the show and their little in jokes with Dara are so repetitive. I can’t even remember the last time anyone made a satirical comment on anything that was vaguely funny, which is surely the point of the show.

Yeah, the Megabus joke is stone-cold and should have been retired a long time ago.

It is telling that the standup round and the "scenes we'd like to see" provide the best laughs...

Morgan Wallen, the biggest new country star in America (#1 album at the moment) has been FULLY cancelled for saying the n-word in a video taken by a neighbour while he was being rowdy. Lost sponsorships, radio support and his record deal too I think. :x:

Meanwhile on the iTunes charts... :manson:

Fuck Morgan Wallen (although I did like 7 Summers). He should have been cancelled when he was partying maskless and making out with college students right before he was supposed to go on SNL during a pandemic. He's the new Toby Keith

Also I literally CANNOT at "Fake Woke"

And that DISASTER of a Sia film is popping up again, due to it featuring scenes of restraint as therapy. Also some people are pissed off that it's been nominated at the Golden Globes.

Variety said the singer had also tweeted that all restraint scenes will be removed from public screenings of the film.

"I plan to remove the restraint scenes from all future printings. I listened to the wrong people and that is my responsibility, my research was clearly not thorough enough, not wide enough," she tweeted, shortly before deleting her account which had about 6m followers.

"I promise, have been listening. The motion picture Music will, moving forward, have this warning at the head of the movie," she said.

She added: "Music in no way condones or recommends the use of restraint on autistic people. There are autistic occupational therapists that specialise in sensory processing who can be consulted to explain safe ways to provide proprioceptive, deep-pressure feedback to help w[ith] meltdown safety."

Well, I'm glad Sia finally listened at least in some way after months of people telling her what a disaster it was, after her initial response.

Racism is an American problem, not just a southern problem

The south certainly doesn't think it has a racism problem. Or it does and just doesn't give a fuck. Southern labels will still sign him and southern audiences will still listen to him and pay to see him. I think he'll have a much smaller career, but nevertheless a decent one.

I also don't buy that major labels and corporations dropped him out of the goodness of their own hearts. Money talks, and he's become a reputational and financial liability. So to all the rednecks complaining that they're being 'cowardly' are just annoyed that "good old-fashioned capitalism" works both ways.

.

maybe you can try to not categorize “the south” as one monolithic block. It does in fact include the majority of Black Americans, who definitely don’t condone this. I’ve lived in Georgia and New York, and people in New York are racist too. And THEY are the ones trying to deny it. Boston is one of the most racist cities in the country.

there are of course many racists in the south, since America is a highly racist country. But blaming it all on the south doesn’t hold the rest of the country accountable for their actions.

Sure. I understand that. And tbh I hate that I've let social media color my view of America like that.

But I still think Morgan W. will have a career. I mean just look at that iTunes chart. I think it's been mentioned on here before, but 'woke' social media users think that cancelling someone online is solving the problem and that's all there is to it. When really, it turns it into a "You can't sit with us" situation and the Right suddenly think that they're the victims. I've said it before, but we want people to not be racist because they know it's wrong, not because they're scared they'll lose fans.

I actually agree with that, and I may have gotten a bit defensive about the south :D

had they seen the movie?

The trailer was enough to know it was a horrific portrayal of autism, and the group that she consulted with on the project is notorious among the autistic community for championing a "cure" for autism. It was never going to go well

thanks for expanding! I had not read about the affiliation. I did read about her atonement spree earlier today though...

poor Maddy, CHOPPED

Also, I don't want to share the restraint scene as it's horrific, but it leans into the idea that if autistic people 'play up', you should hold them down against their will. I have not seen the whole film, and I do not want to, but have seen the restraint scene I understand that this concept isn't questioned, but shown as the way to deal with an 'autistic tantrum'

I’ve seen several reviewers mention that the movie is awful. But reviews won’t be out for a few more days.

I got a bit heated in another thread about it - other people had different views, but it all hit a nerve with me as being very misguided. She said she did a lot of research, but there's a quite a lot of anger about the portrayal in the autistic community.

See for example:

An actually autistic person responds to Sia’s controversial new film Music | Dazed (dazeddigital.com)

Sia's film Music misrepresents autistic people. It could also do us damage | Film | The Guardian

Autism on screen: where Sia went wrong – The Oxford Student

that was my kneejerk gripe, if the movie was trying to portray what presumably is being done to some autistic individuals, but if it is practically promoting it... yuck

Was this Autism Speaks? They're the worst :(

Sadly, yes. To quote the first article above "Further, Sia naively cites Autism Speaks’ endorsement of the film, a controversial group that treats autism as a disease to be eradicated, rather than a valid neurotype."

Is she really gonna get cancelled from all of this though? Maybe I'm not gauging the response right.
