The opening jarrs because I've got Clare Maguire's sublime voice etched into my mind but once it gets going it's really lovely.

2 for 2.

I'll just put the original here for comparison. Still one of the best songs I've ever heard.

It is a solid job. The 'at the afterparty' and 'my Baccardi' parts of the second verse do not compare to Clare's delicious delivery but I think in the second half it becomes more of his own version.

The original is obviously incredible but that is such a wonderful version. Love the strings and it builds so well from the first verse.

Christ bitch sounds great.

He really does. There are some properly stungorge moments on this.

Definitely my my favourite release of the week and the best so far from the album.

I think it is my least favourite of the tracks released (and to be fair that goes for the originals too) but I love hearing how he is stretching his voice on these songs. Can't wait for the album.

This came out today and to me it’s very tasteful but ultimately safe and a tad uninspiring.

I agree it feels almost self-consciously tasteful. I do like the album though for what it is. There are no dramatic interpretations in the unheard tracks that make you consider the original in a new light (not that I think that was expected) but no real duds.

Losing You is the one track that gets the real slowed down treatment compared to the original.

I Follow Rivers works rather well and I like Til There's Nothing Left. Missing goes in a Fleetwood Mac kind of direction quite successfully.

Safe is a good word to describe it. Predictably I like the songs I know least over the songs I know well. Losing You is a miss for me. Strong sounds lovely but it doesn’t change the original and you can’t top the original, without that voice. It just sounds like a nice live lounge attempt, nothing more

Missing I like, but something tells me it’s just because of the strength of such a monumental song that I quite like hearing a different take on it. But I’m a bit disappointed that he stripped the moodiness out of it, which suits the lyrics so much better. Plus trying to replace Tracey Thorns vocal delivery on such a heavy, emotional song is never going to be easy.

I think he did a great job with Elizabeth Taylor, but I love the original far too much to give that more than a couple of listens.

I like the Sky Ferreira and Lykke Li covers, but at the moment Daniel and the title track remain the best efforts wasily

Midweek number one, ahead of reissues from George Harrison and Brian May(!). I assume Billie Eilish will be top of the chart again by the end of the week.

There are some very short videos on his Twitter talking about the songs.

Interesting that he wasn't familiar with Cam or Sky Ferreira, I am assuming these suggestions came from Richard X (though I see he is now managed by Fascination so maybe from that direction).

Losing You and then Strong are definitely my least favourites but I like everything else. For a covers album I think that is a pretty good return.

When did that Clare Maguire song rack up ten million+ Spotify streams? I thought that second album totally tanked? Did it end up on a TV show or something?

Sometimes a great song is a great song. It's probably had a very slow word of mouth over the years.

I'm surprised he's added so many sales since Monday already. thought he'd max out the week with about 8.5k :o 10k+ for an album like this is a fantastic result

2.00000001 of that 9.0K are Suede purchases - one signed CD, one download bundle and a smattering of streams (:eyes: ). CRYING ON THE BATHROOM FLOOR TO THE TOP!
