Xtina - Liberation (2nd birthday listen party)

Liberation - better than Chromatica I. Not as good as Bionic.

Sorry I'm late by the way, I thought I could sneak in some quick porn after my group call

Maria is a really committed exercise in creating an almost 5 minute song with not a single melody, hook or moment of any interest whatsoever. Tuneless!

I got a strong deja-vu writing that post about Maria, which either means I said something similar before or my theory about time being non-linear really is correct

She sounds a bit rough still on “Maria” like the remnants of Lotus are still lingering but I like the sentiment. It gets better as it goes on.

Legend X: makes a hundred milli sitting on her ass for god knows how many seasons of The Voice. writes bitchy anthem about how it was holding her down. :disco:

Contrary to how I remember it Sick of Sittin' does have a certain enjoyable energy almost harking back to Dangerous/HIStory-era MJ

“Sick of Sittin” sounds like a Back to Basics (disc 1) meets Stripped reject. Totally uninspired on every level.

Fall In Line is a bit of an "almost" affair. It's almost there, but actually finds itself teetering dangerously on the corner of anthemic and screamfest.

Demi sounds good!

OK - now we got the "rock" songs out the way this album can begin proper :disco: (I'll pause for a hot min to sync)

I was going to say same thing. It’s definitely a showcase for Demi but very unexciting by both their standards. They should have collaborated on “I Love Me” - that would have been fitting.

“Right Moves” sounding very out of place with what preceded it. But finally something different. Her Rock Steady moment.

Right Moves is fucking impeccable honestly. Genuinely quite a sexy song and both guest verses are killer. EXCELLENT adlibs, DELICIOUS island vibe :disco: who'd have thought she'd sound so natural on something like this?

“Like I Do” is exquisite. Her confidence oozes throughout and finally suits the song/mood. This song reminds me of the day I quit my last job- It leaked that day and I listened to it at least two dozen times while walking the streets of Boston :disco:

Like I Do is fucking stellar - probably my standout track on this record. The production is fresh as fuck, that flute gives me life.

Sidenote - I'm glad she did not cave to the sub-3 minute optimised for Spotty Fry TREND with this album. Maximalist opuses are the name of Xtina's game. :disco:

“Deserve” is the slept on grower of the album for me. The calypso verses against the percolating synths are divine.

The verses of Deserve are indeed very delicate, understated and quite beautiful. This album begins to hit a solid stride in its middle section.

Her voice is very busted. But with the right songs she sounds really good. In "Twice", the paino compliments her softer vocals so well.

I find the verses in "Deserve" just too lightweight. The chorus is the only thing I enjoy.

What a load of crap :D have you seen any of her live performances in the last two years? Her voice has never been in better shape.

I was quite agog at how good she sounded on the X tour last year.

“Twice” is pretty drab but not horrible.

this album is more inconsistent than I remember!
