TV ratings thread

The War Of The Worlds does not really seem to have taken off. Those figures must be a bit of a disappointment for BBC.

I still think it will benefit greatly from iplayer further down the line, but yes, I can't help thinking the BBC would have hoped for better. Still, they chose to launch it against IACGMOOH.

That is terrible. Maybe the PCD controversy may have added a few viewers on catch up figures of the final.

On individual shows it's not even near the overall top 50 of the week. It's the #35 show of the week on ITV1 alone!

I don’t know if it’s even worth starting an X Factor: The Band thread?

OH WHY NOT.

I see X Factor: The Band is starting next MONDAY.
Well it clearly would be suicide launching it on a Saturday, so I understand why. Is it one night each week only?

War Of The Worlds is also great for the first two episodes, then has a REALLY SHIT BORING third one that people have been quite vocal about disliking online...that could be tempering figures a little.

Nice to see His Dark Materials sort of holding up...particularly as it's not exactly a LIGHT watch with the story being somewhat complex.

As far as I can make out. I only discovered the start date when trawling through the TV guide for something else. It just seems strange for it to be shown on a Monday, although it maybe isn’t such a bad idea.

I really want to believe that if X Factor The Band doesn't take off, SURELY that is the end for the X Factor, considering the break this year supposedly to revive the format only seems to have driven the nail in to the coffin harder. But I imagine Cowell will limp on regardless.

It's actually really depressing that reality shows are still ruling the roost when it comes to TV ratings. Well SOME reality shows! :D

Simon Cowell really needs to give it a break, I think this new series is going to get even WORSE ratings!

If ITV keep renewing the show and lining Simon Cowell’s pockets I can not see him giving it up. What I don’t understand is why don’t ITV pull the plug?

Really though, with BGT significantly down on previous series, and X Factor pulling less than three million now, the fact that ITV allow Cowell to go on can only reflect the DEARTH of ideas they have around primetime entertainment shows. Surely they must be looking for something else to pull the viewers and advertisers in?!

Cowell keeps banging on about the youth demographic and online views - why not move the show to e4 or youtube only? It's not like it gets many more viewers than Hollyoaks now, anyway!

I don’t think BGT has haemorrhaged that many viewers has it? I know the All Stars version bombed but didn’t think BGT had fallen all that significantly?

I was going only by the All Star version, admittedly, which I believe was about 2m down on the previous standard series.

What does ITV usually give us on Saturday night in the new year? I know its Dancing On Ice on Sunday - is it Ant and Dec something on Saturdays?

He needs to call it a day. Watching him on the final of X Factor Celebrity I couldn’t help but think how ridiculous he looked from head to toe. He has had a MEGA successful career up until now and has made enough money to sustain a fabulously extravagant lifestyle for the rest of his days.

Saturday Night Takeaway, and not to forget the winter version of Love Island over on ITV2. The Voice?

According to Wikipedia this years final got 8.78 million viewers. It has been hovering just over 9 million since 2015.

Just looking at the average ratings for BGT, ignoring the All Star version. The 2019 series was actually up slightly on 2018, with 8.78m against 8.33m average. However the 2018 figure was the lowest ever, and 2019 is the third lowest, with the very first series being second.

I imagine that 8.78m average is still seen as pretty successful though, so I expect ITV will be happy to stick with that.

Yeah, looking at the ratings just now in the darkest depths of Winter where they are probably at their highest, the BGT average would put it at number 4 in the ratings table so it is safe....for now.

Is Dragons Den finished? I got confused with this season as the last episodes I watched were episodes where Theo was standing in for Touker. Was that the end of the series?

Yes, I think it disappeared for a few weeks when there was something else on (possibly darts or athletics?) and then when it returned it was repeats from two series ago, which are still on - or at least were last week. It did feel like a short series, though.

Yes. It totally bamboozled me as I have it on series link, and it seems to be recording episodes that I recalled from before.

Is that Sky+? Ours is crazy like that. It will suddenly seemingly randomly start recording shows we haven't recorded for months, even though they aren't new series, and sometimes in the middle of a series. Odd.

It’s Sky Q. I haven’t noticed it on anything else as of yet, but I noticed I had a load of Dragons Den, and got really confused when I knew what the dragons were about to say. A lot of them are not all that memorable, but a few stand outs got me questioning what on Earth was happening.

Mine does that as well. It regularly seems to turn up random repeats. I usually catch them on the scheduled list but sometimes it does cause a recording conflict, not that it matters so much with everything on catch up.

Michael McIntyre's continuing fame depresses me

I’m not surprised that IACGMOOH fell below 10 million viewers. I watched it all, but it certainly won’t go down as one of the best.

Just looking at how the chart from November 4 - 10 consolidated from 7 to 28 day figures

SCD results + 0.186m
SCD +0.273m
Seven Worlds One Planet +0.804m
His Dark Materials +1.437m
The Apprentice +0.722m
Coronation Street +0.266m
Doc Martin +0.561m
Ant & Dec's DNA Journey +0.478m

Wow at the catch up His Dark Materials figures - it’s definitely watch at a time that suits you fodder rather than whatever time it goes on TV.

I think a box set drop (perhaps in 2 halves) alongside a TV screening would have made a lot more sense that the usual TV roll out.

It's really interesting how Strictly's views on catch up are way less than The Apprentice...
I imagine The Apprentice has a younger audience, more likely to use iplayer?

Strictly also has the highest percentage share consistently, barring sporting events broadcast at ridiculous hours, whereas The Appentice has the lowest share of the Top 20 programmes.

I guess although it's not so obvious a catch up favourite as the dramas, it probably does appeal to a demographic who are far more comfortable with non linear viewing.

It's also worth noting that of The Apprentice's 6.068m total this week (7 day consolidation), only 2.641m was live viewing. No other show in the chart has less half its total from live viewing.
