The Crown - Netflix Elizabeth II Drama

Yes, the Queen Mum is a bit shit as a character too. Where is all the steely determination we were told about? She's just a simpering, half simple old trout according to this.

Anne telling the Queen about Charles' marriage problems was everything.

I love the Queen Mum. and I LOVE Philip's portrayal by Tobias Menzes. he's the most interesting man in the show now.

Anne is my absolute highlight of the ENTIRE series so far. She's TREMENDOUS! I wonder if the Princess Royal herself will realise how this must be doing WONDERS for her image :disco:
She said something in an interview that she has seen it and thought it ridiculous the girl playing her took two hours to get her hairstyle “it takes me ten or fifteen minutes”

I note we had a John Major on the benches, but sadly no Heseltine. What a missed opportunity. They honestly could have done 20 episodes for the 80s.

But the 90s were when when things go REALLY MENTAL!

What period is it going to stop at? Presumably they won't do much post-Diana.

I’m still fuming the last series didn’t have an Anne kidnap attempt focus
omg yes. What a missed dramatic moment. They didn't really cast Mark Phillips.

Or Fergie! Andrew seriously sidelined. Understandably.

I think they have two more series.

I wanna know if 5 is gonna be a complete recast or will they use the same Diana.

And yet Whatsherface from the first iteration was the standout as well- it's basically just MAGS being FABULOUS that makes the character great.

Still prefer Foy to Coleman, mind.
Oh yes whoever she was in the first two series was amazing .
I’m currently reading “Ma’am Darling” about OUR MAGS . What a woman .

Coleman was better this series imo.

But yes Foy nailed young QE2.

Oh I'm a BIG FAN of that one- it's very good!

Read Lady Glenconner's biography after that as well for the other side. That was also quite good fun.

For a staunch Republican, I do like reading about the WHOLE BITCHY LOT OF THEM :disco:

I'm only three episodes in and all she's done is sit around looking troubled so far. The Thatcher scenes have crackled, though...

Mr Sheena isn't home now until Friday. I'm not sure I can wait that long to finish off.

I'm having a hard time with Anderson's Thatcher. I'm familiar with the real thing's voice and I can see what she's going for, but she sounds like a fucking Ent.

I just Coleman as more of a side character which is odd .

fabulous cameo from Lieutenant GRUBER though in the cabinet :disco:

It's not known yet but apparently seasons 5 and 6 will cover the same period of time that season 5 was going to it (when it was intended to finish after five). I can see season 5 being 91-97 (up to the death itself maybe) and season 6 '97-02 (Diana aftermath to Queen Mother death).

total QoL Elizabeth Debicki is playing Diana in season 5 ("and 6" apparently)

I had no idea Charles and Diana's relationship was troubled THAT early on. I always thought the eating disorder started later in their marriage.

It says Elizabeth Debicki is Diana for Series 5 AND 6, so they must be dragging the 90s across two series.

The Margaret episode was quite sad really. Helena is sensationally good in this role. She really nails that slightly childlike innocence and vulnerability under the surface of Margot's tough, good time exterior.

This last episode...

was such utter bollocks. Thatcher asking for a dissolution? I know most of it is made up, but they make it very hard to suspend disbelief.

Maybe they'll have her appear at Will and Kate's wedding, like Yoda and Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi.

We need a Season 5 showing the Diana explosion in the middle of the 90s, and then a Season 6 on Kate vs. Meghan, with Kate portrayed as the villain she is.

God I HATE the Royals. Off with their heads ASAP.

Yes, can’t believe they aren’t giving us Kate vs Meghan. THAT’S THE SHIT WE ALL WANT.

And when are they bringing Joan Collins in as some hammy old royal, that’s what I WANT TO KNOW :disco:

There’s AMPLE material if they wanted to bring this back for a season 7, but I kind of think it needs a few years of hindsight to do a really good job of it, so it might work best as a kind of limited series revival after she snuffs it for real.

I'm somewhat doubtful she's watched The Crown. :eyes:

how different is Erin Doherty (Anne) out of character? I'm quite shocked :D
