Miley Cyrus - Midnight Sky + Plastic Hearts (the new masterpiece record!)

we're all joining no? :D I just don't like to do listening parties for my first play of a hotly anticipated record. that's a very PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I prefer to go in a little lubricated.

Ok, like Say Something, Midnight Sky is the best thing on this album.
 
On my first listen now (but I will be returning for the PARTY). Its very strong so far

I randomly listened to Angels Like You at midnight and I then listened to it on repeat 3 more times. It is already feeling like a classic

well HELLO let's celebrate THAT!

Midnight Sky's chart run is ridiculous. 15-19-17-10-10-11-7-8-6-5-9-7-5-8-7 - 11 weeks top 10 and counting...
 
I'd have thought it would have succumbed to ACR by now, but I imagine the realise of the album is only going to help that this week - it usually does, doesn't it?
 
does anyone object to starting at 5 past 7?

I've just run to the shop to buy weed :eyes:

@Jark described it as "early/mid-00s emo pop-rock throwback vibe" but thats a vibe that works for her

I wish she had just called it What The Fuck Do I Know

It's serving me more early Miley and mid 00s pop-rock chick than 80s rock - maybe this is the opener because lyrically it's a bit of a MOMENT, all very post-divorce fuck you.

'WTF Do I Know' is very Pink actually. Obviously Miley doing noughties pop-rock peaked with her cover of Ashlee Simpson, but this is fab too.
 
These are such well written songs. Conventional, but full of hooks and little quirks.

Can I just say I love HER. She gets so much unwarranted criticism, but she is so cool and has a phenomenal voice. She also has always put her money where her mouth is with being an LGBT ALLY, and I don't think its just for show at all. I really thing she is just a thoughtful, caring person. She owns her flaws as well

she should be a hot mess but seems like a really intelligent, self-aware human being who has her shit together. she's a mess for always disowning her past work but whatever! relatable queen!

Oh this might be my favourite. Right from the Beatles-y guitar opening to the pretty verses to the big chorus. Shows all the facets of her voice. Love it!

Who hasn't disowned everything they did just months before??

One of my biggest fights with my dad EVER was when he called her a slut and I got very defensive

This chorus. Also the lyrics, which acknowledge both sides being at fault in a messy relationship, are perfect
 
Angels Like You feels like a bit of a moment. Melodically it's maybe not my favourite ballad by her, it's almost trying a tad too hard to be a huge stadium rawk anthem. But it does feel quite epic and you know it's gonna go GO OFF on a festival stage.

it took quite a long time to realise "her" was, in fact, Miley Cyrus :D

I like Prisoner a lot more than I did at first. The verses and pre-chorus are great, but I still think the chorus lets it down a bit. It's still a cracking pop tune though.

whatever this is about, yes. yes a million times. I REALLY love this song. people have called it a touch FLAT but I actually think it pops nicely and has quite a lot of DRAMA in it. the blend of their vocals is excellent.

Prisoner works a little more for me in the context of the album, and I'm glad that its given her another UK hit, but she has better for me. For instance, the next 3
 
the 3x-repeated line at the end with Miley's vocal going UP a key/octave (ugh whatever) each time is excellent!
 
there are a lot of interesting details buried quite deep in the mix of Gimme What I Want. you have to listen for them, it's such a well produced song though.

this one is Bell & Watt production as with most of the record
 
I reckon Gimme What I Want is gonna be quite a grower. It's so slinky and DIRTY. Fantastic production.

This is HOT. It does sound like Closer, but she does a great job of taking that vibe and making it her own
