Lana Del Rey - Chemtrails Over The Country Club

She announced a country duet record with Nikki Lane last night

Finally! I was getting nervous we only had Rock Candy Baby to look forward to/dread

remind me - will this come before or after the Great American Songbook standards record she announced last year?

I mean none of the singles had any proper momentum prior to release and it makes a difference. possibly the folk-y, more pared-back sound just isn't that appealing to anyone outside of the hardcore fanbase who's buying the vinyl.

the streams for the album are really shit, which makes me sad. Dance Till We Die has barely 4m after almost three weeks. Every song on Norman has 30m+ but it's debatable whether White Dress will even get there in the end.

the obsession is very real these days. I've already streamed Lana 1k times in 2021, and she's now my 9th most played artiste overall, and will become #7 this month.

most streamed TRAX

01 Doin' Time
02 California
03 Cinnamon Girl
04 The Next Best American Record
05 West Coast

thinking of doing a "Jark counts down every LDR song" countdown, but don't want to step on @POP!'s TOES!

gurl. Maybe we shall organize a joint countdown.

depends what kind of Lana you like!

Wild At Heart, Dark But Just a Game and Dance Till We Die are the happiest/sunniest

Tulsa Jesus Freak has autotune and beats for the Born To Die queens - probably the other closest song to the title track

Yosemite (major highlight) and Not All Who Wander Are Lost are more folksy/Lust For Life-adjacent

just play it all beb, it's a sprightly 45 mins!

I've played it twice now, but I'm struggling. I'm sure I'll come around to it, it took me a while to get into NFR. Having said that, I'm still not a big fan of Ultraviolence, maybe this album will be the same for me.

I saw her poetry recording on vinyl for sale, and I almost bought it, because I thought it was kind of funny, but then it was $35

I am struggling with this album - probably the first time I find myself saying that when it comes to LDR.

I love "White Dress" and "Dance Till We Die" but the rest just bleeds into a bit of a low-key snoozefest after the first 2-3 listens.

Hun, I’m struggling as well. I KNOW Lana records sometimes need a little effort but I just can’t be arsed this time around.

@Jark have you come around to White Dress yet?

Summer, sizzling
Listening to jazz out on the lawn
Listening to White Stripes... when they were white-hot
Listening to rock, ALL DAY LONG

Her sultry delivery and the jazz nuances are just chef’s kiss

I like it just fine, but it's still bottom 3 for me. I'm just not that much into loose, stream of consciousness songwriting. but it's a nice opener and I don't skip.
