Lil Nas X - Montero (Call Me By Your Name)

Maybe it's an environmental thing. Everyone (at least here) throws dinner parties / sex parties / goes to the gym with fake medical certificates and then posts them on social media, so maybe my tolerance for "rule breaking" is different. I don't see anything that Lil Nas did that was different to what I've seen countless others doing for months.

Regardless of whether it’s the norm in France (or wherever) it’s still wrong and needs to be called out though.

Yeah, other people doing the wrong thing isn't justification for you or anyone else to do the same, and it's exactly that attitude that draws everything out for everyone.

Fair enough. When you do the "right" thing, and all around you, people flagrantly bend / break the rules, you do eventually come to the point of asking yourself why you continue to stick to them. I don't believe the situation in France has been well managed - but the culture here is what it is - but the environment ultimately shapes your reaction to the situation.

So what? Still could have waited a few months before doing something like this, particularly since he probably has a whole suite of slow-drip remixes and features of this to come so it's not like the song is GOING anywhere soon.

Apparently there are no plans for features or remixes

Oh! No I don't care about who the party's FOR :D I will confess to being a bit ignorant re vaccine rollout in the US though - I can't imagine they've got to folk in their twenties yet though, surely.

In Georgia, where Lil Nas X is from/maybe lives, anyone 16+ can get a vaccine now.

I'm not saying this is right at all, and he shouldn't have done it, but every club in Atlanta looks like that and most famous rappers have been here having parties, so this isn't particularly unusual/surprising.

it's wrong and it's also entirely expected and we know every popstar is at it so...

We should demand more of celebrities (and the French) :(

Oh here comes the French bashing? :eyes: I REALLY doubt the French are doing more rule bending than other countries. The US didn’t even have that many rules to bend to begin with anyway!

I know of a very well known London restauranteur couple who’ve been having dinners in their restaurants for 20+ people since January.

Most of the US doesn’t have any rules at all basically, but that doesn’t make it right to throw parties like that

Despite the covid party stuff, I’m still thrilled at the news. I don’t think anything this blatantly gay has ever been number 1 before. I think this will mean a lot for gay teenagers.

Also I hope a lot of Republican politicians have their days ruined by this news

Are there even any restrictions still in place in Georgia (assuming that's where the party was)? @RJN I don't disagree that the party throwing is irresponsible and dangerous, but if it's not against the rules should this not be a call to action for lawmakers as opposed to a cancel party? I just don't see what the latter accomplishes. If anyone has seen what's been going on in Miami for spring break (or in any spring break destination in the US) Lil Nas is certainly not the root of the problem.

There are no restrictions in Georgia (well, there is technically one for groups larger than 50, but it isn't being enforced at all).

I agree that Lil Nas X is not the root of the problem, but it is still frustrating when celebrities reinforce these kind of actions. And its not just him. Most celebrities (and most Americans) don't seem to be following any sort of precautions. It is 100% the governments fault though, in my opinion. And it is too late. Nothing is going to happen now, and there isn't any political advantage to increasing restrictions.

If it makes you/Georgia feel better, Michigan is averaging 7,000+ new cases per day - pretty sure the highest of anywhere in the US ever per capita :zombie:

Well I wouldn't say that make me feel any better, but maybe less angry at the Georgia government (for this reason only). Georgia actually isn't doing too badly, despite the lack of restrictions. I think it must have to do with the weather, because there aren't any other reasons I can think of. People just want to be outside more since its been so nice lately.

The data from Michigan does look scary though. Again, I think it must be the weather which is causing the north to be doing worse right now.

Not sure it's new thread worthy but I love this new one

The performance itself is pretty basic to be honest and reminds me of Miley Cyrus' infamous MTV appearance. As CHER said about that one, it just wasn't very good.

That being said the quality is incidental at this point. It's more about a black gay man doing this on SNL. I will continue to be intrigued and I will watch his artistic growth with interest but let's hope he improves his craft because shock value will get you through the door but you won't stay in the room for long.

Where is the lie tho? Show me the lie.

I want someone - anyone - to talk about the new song though
