Adele - 30

I'm in the slightly underwhelmed category based on first listen. It is rare for ballads to grab you first time out though, although I think Someone Like You managed it better than any other song I can remember. Not that she had the weight of expectation on her then like now.

I think Hello did the same.

I'm definitely underwhelmed. It's nice enough, her voice is obviously great but it certainly isn't Hello or Rolling in the Deep. As someone said, it feels like a generic Adele 3rd single rather than a rip up trees lead single after a 6 year break.

Also as has been said, the video is terrible but then her videos usually are.

Oh Hello was immediate for me. As was Skyfall. It's in the same vein as SLY, but I remember the day @lolly first shared that on moopy, it was released / leaked before Rolling In The Deep became the single and we were all speculating that she needed a big moment with SLY and the album would go stratospheric. We were right (The Brits). We knew instantly that that song was a moment.

This song is not SLY though. It's closer to Chasing Pavements, which I've never liked - it's better than that. But up against, Hello, Skyfall, Set Fire To The Rain, nah.

Rolling In The Deep was immediate for me and I was so excited to show it to my friends :D Hello never really hit me the same way. This is somewhat in the middle. I like it but I think the verses are stronger than the chorus

Not a surprise, but it is already number one on Apple Music US. It usually takes songs a whole day, and the chart's usually filled with Youngboy Never Broke Again etc

Oh wait, either I'm going mad or the tweet's changed :D I originally read that it was the fastest ever #1 and that it reached it in 3 minutes.

Reaching #1 in iTunes isn't exactly something to take note of! :D

You may have read that Tisch but it was a false rumour being spread early this morning before iTunes had even updated

Nobody asked me but, I like it, it's not that great and after a few listens it seems like a poorly rewritten All I Ask :(

First minute - very nice. Some really lovely stuff going on in that first verse. But then it never really takes off and just plods a long too much for my liking.

It's not bad, just not :wow:

Outside of the HARDENED HEARTS of moopy this is getting almost universal praise

I wouldn't say it's universal from what I've seen.

I genuinely don't care for Adele outside of Rolling In The Deep (of which people IRL seem to think this is some sort of CRIMINAL OFFENCE!) so it's no surprise that I don't think much of this. It's just musical wallpaper to me. A song to soundtrack people uploading pictures of BROWN (or red) LEAVES to Instagram.

But whatever, I don't hate her, and she obviously brings a lot of people happiness so I hope those people ENJOY.

I'm not really an Adele fan. I like her as a PERSONALITE more than an ARTISTE but she sounds good and IT'S MISERABLE, what else would you ask for from her?

the song is quite meandering. I don't mind her playing it safe for the lead single but it feels like a mid-tier album track, teebs.

So glad that Adele's back to cheer us all up (just in time for Christmas) as another awful year winds to a close.

This new one is absolutely everything I expected it would be - a brilliantly sung, piano-led, utterly-depressing downer-of-a-track, belted out by someone who is unbelievably and devilishly talented, but who is also seemingly hellbent on destroying your good mood (should you have the misfortune to be in one when you first listen to this).

Adele already has so many awards and achievements under her belt, but she is absolutely determined to wrest the 'Most Depressing Pop Star Ever' crown from Gabrielle's head before poor Gabbers has even popped her clogs (and managed to record a career-salvaging album about it).

(Oh...and good luck trying to get away from this one over the next few years)

...and embrace their Sapphic sisters

We're all expecting her to knock the shit out of Sheeran in terms of sales, but I didn't think she could also do it on streaming.

Yeah I’m shocked by that. Wasn’t expecting her to smash streaming quite in the same way
