Slovak PM Robert Fico SHOT

Reuters say he's in a life threatening condition and they couldn't get him to a hospital in Bratislava because it would take to long.
 
When was the last time the head of government in an EU/NATO country was (successfully?) assassinated? This seems pretty significant.

By your definition, Olof Palme (Sweden) in 1986, but they were neither EU or NATO at the time. Similarly Spain in the 1970s

There was also Francisco Sá Carneiro (Portugal) in 1980, but that was never confirmed as an assassination.

But there has never been a confirmed assassination of a current EU leader, and I think JFK was the last and possibly only NATO leader to be assassinated.

Europe wise, the Serbian PM was assassinated in 2003.

Of course he's a massive right winger, populist, anti-immigration, anti-Muslim, so who knows why the 71 year old, would be assassin, has done this.

Just for a change (:eyes:), Slovakia is a massively divided society - Fico narrowly won last year's election (with only 23% of the vote) on a populist, pro-Russia, anti-LGBT+ platform, while the progressive, pro-Europe, pro-LGBT+ party came 2nd.
 
Isn't EVERY WESTERN COUNTRY highly polarised? They all saw Trump and Brexit and thought that looks easy + social media.

In fact while I was typing this, a Slovakian guy on the news compared the state of Slovakia to Brexit.
 
The shooter was apparently a Marxist who hated his policies.

So Russian false flag then.

It sounds like he's probably survived. He's been in surgery all afternoon and for many hours more.
 
Now, I've called for terrible people to be shot before, but I think in this climate, we need to really think about the potential consequences and human decency. Therefore I fully agree with big ron.
 
He won’t die - Indie doesn’t have him on his death list.
