Americans lap this kind of thing up - see also Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers (albeit with less crossover appeal to adults & non-country fans).

I usually like one country-pop female as much as the next, but Taylor Swift is just bland & nothingy, & not actualy that good. She knows her demographic though, & probably has a few years of success left in her yet.

I can only add my agreememt. As a fan of most female country singers and a lot of female pop singers, this one scrapes the bottom of the barrel in both categories. Which won't stop her outselling all the good ones, of course.
