So you may remember I mentioned we got a 1 star Google review on Roly's and I said I thought it was something to do with the new fudge shop.

It's their fucking daughter and I am livid!!

The review has now gone, but I'm convinced they will do it again.

I cannot understand what they hope to achieve by slating us and why they are so bothered by us 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good morning darling,

That is WAY BELOW THE BELT. How did you find out it was their daughter? They obviously fee very threatened by your shop in that you are more established than them and clearly do it better BUT to be so underhand is disgusting.

Because she's thick as shit, and yesterday reviewed the new shop saying how amazing it was, at the exact same time her husband reviewed it and I recognised the surname. Plus the reviewer is from Ringwood, and she posted on a Ringwood Facebook group.

I get that they may feel threatened but we were here first. Don't open on the island if we're a problem.

I did also find out that last year they contacted Roly's HQ wanting to open a new franchise and were refused. So I assume they're bitter.
 
They deleted the old review themselves, though?

Oh I agree one million percent. I don’t really know much about the island, so must ask if there is room for both shops on the island? I am assuming that you have quite a few miles between you if you are in different towns, but then I suppose there is only so much fudge tourists are likely to buy?

There's easily room, there was already 3 well established fudge shops here before we opened and we haven't really affected them, apart from the one that was already in Cowes, but they've moved to another town and do fine.

We are 13 miles away from the new one, which for island terms is 100 miles. So we really aren't much competition.

Absolutely don’t do anything against them. Should there be a time when they go further, you want to be sure you’ve acted entirely without issue.

We don't feel any threat from them, just annoyance :D

But if they review us again, I spoke to HQ and they've given us a good comeback.

Yep totally agree. We've been nothing but professional.

We even had customers come to our shop last week with "feedback" on the new one. It wasn't positive. And we just responded with "sorry you didn't enjoy it, but I guess everyone has different tastes, we're pleased you like ours".

It was hard tho.

I am tempted to block them in socials like they have us, because they literally watch everything we do. But I think it would make them turn nasty .
 
Yes, I'm all for positive reviews for Rachey but leaving the other one well alone.

I did say to Mandy yesterday, the new shop are stupid, by slating us, all its doing is making us up our game and our friends are all helping. And we know a lot of people.

You think we should? We've been toying with it after they blocked us (personal accounts and friends accounts as well as Roly's), but still continued to view everything we do.

I just get the impression they're a bit unstable.

I absolutely would. I've got competitors on my LinkedIn, but I restrict what some of them can see, for example.

In this situation, I would definitely block them from seeing any of the company socials.
 
I wonder why Roly's turned them down? Is it just because you were already on the island? I don't suppose you'd know.

I remember you saying that Roly's are very strict about locations etc - and Roly's are presumably well qualified to know what potential businesses are likely to be successful. Perhaps they (or their plan) just wasn't up to scratch.

Well partly because Roly's have to give us first refusal if anyone wants to open another on the island, but also they've closed their franchise openings because they're worried about saturating the market.

So unless someone wanted to open one in Scotland, Ireland or another part of Wales, they're currently not allowed.
