It's far from perfect technically but as a whole experience it's quite something. And it was released at such a pivotal moment in my life so I have a personal connection to it. I've said it before here but I had lived through my own I WAS Hoping experience and hearing the song was just such a moment.

I had to watch my tongue
For fear of having you feel judged

07 Front Row
07 Baba
10 Thank U
10 Are You Still Mad
07 Sympatheric Character
10 That I Would Be Good
10 The Couch

For singles, I'd have gone:

1. Thank U
2. Joining You - but not 5 months later!
3. UR

Kind of a hard album to find singles from though.

I should know this but is there a studio version of 'No Pressure Over Cappuccino' anywhere? I'm pretty sure it's not on the 4-disc JLP reissue..

Sadly not. I think a studio demo is in the background of Jagged Little Pill Live at some point. She said in 1999 I think that she was going to go into the studio to record it, but it either never happened or was never released. I suspect it never happened or it would have been on the 4-disc JLP you mentioned

Yeah I was totally obsessed with the snippet (I think it played over the credits) on my JLP, LIVE VHS tape and was so pleased when we got it on Unplugged.

Oh I remember the name!

I'm going to have an Alanis binge after the gym. She's not really a pre workout kinda gal.
I've got some Alanis songs on my running playlist, namely -

  • Excuses
  • So UnSEXY
  • 21 Things I WANT in a Lover
  • Surrendering
  • Receive
  • Underneath
  • Sister BLISTER
  • Versions of VIOLENCE
  • Woman DOWN
  • Would NOT Come

AND she reprises it later in the song. Ugh so good:

Hey I'm not mad at you guardian
I'm mad at myself for spending so much time with you and your Jekyll and Hydeness
I'm glad I figuratively slapped you on the wrist
You laughed a wicked laugh and said 'come here let me clip your wings'

(I know he's blood but you can still turn him away you don't owe him anything)

So the front cover. Does a version exist a) without the words, or b) zoomed out (without text)?
I think the answer is no, but this is the picture used for the smile on the cover:
