Kylie - Padam Padam (1st single, May 18th) (1 Viewer)

Sorry if this is old news but did we know that one of the ‘Padam Padam’ writers said it was initially sent to Rita Ora who had a last minute change of heart about recording it and other (unnamed) acts on the label before landing with Kylie?
the version of this story I read with quotes from Ina Wroldsen doesn't say Rita ever rejected or even recorded it

“We wrote Padam in February 2022 and there were maybe four or five months of us sitting on it, then I sent it to their label, and someone suggested to me, ‘Kylie would kill this.'” They were unsure and there was a moment when Rita was going to cut it and it was worming around a few artists on that label.

a song being shopped around BMG acts is probably not uncommon practice, I doubt that Rita would say no to such an obvious banger if chosen... especially as it's quite close to the sound of her own Bang EP

I wonder if The Brits performing will boost streaming numbers this week, or get Tension back in the charts

It’ll give it all a little boost but nothing of note. Tension is back up to around #50 on iTunes albums and Padam has two versions back in the top 100 but overall I doubt it will result in any kind of chart action. Most of the times these days it doesn’t - only RAYE seems to be seeing any major benefit.

I know it was a retrospective medley and I know that REALLY it was kinda :disco: but I feel I don't ever need to see another Kylie with troupe of dancers in headgear dancing robotically EVER AGAIN.
oh cmon. it's a career retrospective medley at the brits and it's the iconography belonging to her biggest hit.

Which is exactly what I said, so I don’t think that was warranted, but she’s basically done it about 300 times, on nearly every tour since and when it/other songs get wheeled out and it’s time to retire it.

She can never get out of playing the song (though I’d happily have it rest a while), I get that, but just do something different with the imagery.

I don't think this Brits performance was the right time to retire it.

To be fair to her, Les Folies, Kiss Me Once and the Golden tours all veered away from that robot aesthetic for the song.

In fact I know this is an unpopular opinion, but the Golden tour version is possibly one of my favourites interpretations of the song.

I meant the robotic men in head gear imagery, that’s all.
Yes, I don't see a problem with her wheeling it out again, for a performance (which itself was only part of a medley) not intended for her hardcore fanbase.

The original Brits performance is pretty much universally accepted by fans as a high point of her career. For a Global Icon performance (which is essentially a lifetime achievement, isn't it?), it makes pretty good sense to me that she would include something of a reprise of it. Particularly coming straight after the track which essentially earned her the award. And it was about a quarter of a medley. Genuinely don't see any issue.

I do understand the argument that she could be more creative with her performances sometimes, especially outside of touring ie awards show and tv perfs, but maybe this just wasn't the moment for it.

it must be her biggest audience since Glastonbury and she gave a smooth Kylie perf that will help sell tour tickets... if she ever announces one. I found it a bit emotional actually, I loved what she served. she seems to be allowing herself to have so much fun these days.

I'm just happy she wheeled out All The Lovers and LAFS, it's been a while since I've heard those two! I Believe In You and Dancing wouldn't have gone amiss either :disco: Time to remind everyone she has more songs you know.

I found that bit at the very end (where she tells the crowd that she loves them, does that high kick butt wiggle and then high fives her dancing troupe) so utterly joyous and heartwarming that it almost brought a tear to my eye.

I give up. I literally said that she should have done it here- just that I don’t need to see it again in a hurry.

Love At First Sight didn’t make it to Gold?
No, Billboard had it at 134k pure sales as of 2011. It was not released as a CD single (neither was CGYOOMH) but didn't enjoy the same level of digital sales, or streams, in subsequent years. CGYOOMH has remained a sales and streaming force.
