”Contagious” - Lyrics
No surrender
Defenders of the truth
Nothing last forever
Here’s what we gotta do

When you’re laughing it’s contagious
It’s a little something that’s so painless
These are times that are dangerous
But pray for wonders,
it won’t save us

The life we’re living
Goes up in smoke
Be careful what you’re bringing
It's not a bloody joke

When you’re laughing it’s contagious
It’s a little something that’s so painless
These are times that are dangerous
But pray for wonders,
it won’t save us

These are times that are dangerous
Pray for wonders,
it won’t save us

When you’re laughing it’s contagious
It’s a little something that’s so painless
These are times that are dangerous
But when you’re laughing it’s contagious

Best artist picture this year!

I admit I dreamt about Lillasyster and Mustasch last night. They were having a fight over which hard rock entry was the purest. During the scuffle it was revealed that Lillasyster's song was written by schlager divas and was originally made for a Disney production. Naturally Lillasyster was very taken aback and blushed in shame, eyes to the ground then went into hiding.

Is it tomorrow we get the descriptions? I look forward to finding out how chillingly inaccurate they are this week.
"Still Young puts me in mind of early Lynyrd Skynyrd, Moustache's 'Contagious' is almost indistinguishable from PM Dawn's 'Set Adrift on Memory Bliss', and Alvaro seems to have taken Baila Baila straight from the Cleo Laine songbook."

”Den du är” - Lyrics
Kom lägg dig här bredvid
i gryningstimmans tid
och låt mig säga dig
jag är så tacksam att du finns
i mitt liv

Lägg handen mot min kind,
låt värmen strömma in
Se mig i ögonen
och känn att jag vill vara din,
bara din

Och när vi älskar
svindlar himlarna förbi
Du gör så mina vingar bär
genom din magi,
den du är

Jag lovar och jag svär,
fast jag vet att jag är
så liten på vår jord
kan ingen känsla bli så stor
som den här

Och när vi älskar
svindlar himlarna förbi
Du gör så mina vingar bär
genom din magi,
den du är

Det är för din skull
som jag vågar flyga fri,
så jag vill be dig nu och här
lova att förbli
just den du är

Så jag vill be dig nu och här
lova att förbli
just den du är

Så jag vill be dig nu och här
lova att förbli
just den du är

”Who You Are” - Literal Translation
Come lie down next to me
at the cusp of dawn
and let me tell you that
I'm so grateful you exist
in my life

Put your hand on my cheek,
let the heat flow in
Look me in the eyes
and feel that I want to be yours,
just yours

And when we make love
the skies roams by
You make my wings take off
through your magic,
through who you are

I promise and I swear,
though I know I am
so small on our earth
no feeling can be so great
like this

And when we make love
the skies roams by
You make my wings take off
through your magic,
through who you are

It's for your sake
as I dare to fly freely,
I ask you here and now
promise to remain
just who you are

So I want to ask you now and here
promise to remain
just who you are

So I want to ask you now and here
promise to remain
just who you are

Oh na na na

You and me don’t stop for the red lights
Hear the cops come it’s all right
We be like devils on the floor
Oh na na na
Oh na na na

Baby you’re my one desire
Let’s set the night on fire
Don’t ever stop – come give me more
Oh na na na
Oh na na na

Ma ma ma ma mamasita
Come here come here sweet bonita
Dame dame tu cosita
Shhh

Viva love forever
You and me together
When the sun goes down we keep on baila baila
Viva love forever
You and me together
When the sun goes down we keep on baila baila

And we can dance away away away
Until the break of day
Away away
Yeah we can dance away
Away away
Oh baila baila

Oh na na na
Oh na na na

Drinks on me until the sundown
Til the morning we don’t shut down
We got everything we need
Oh na na na
Oh na na na

Come here and touch me slowly
Like I’m the one and only
I am with you and you’re with me
Oh na na na
Oh na na na

Ma ma ma ma mamasita
Come here come here sweet bonita
Dame dame tu cosita
Shhh

Viva love forever
You and me together
When the sun goes down we keep on baila baila
Viva love forever
You and me together
When the sun goes down we keep on baila baila

And we can dance away away away
Until the break of day
Away away
Yeah we can dance away

To bad this is a frontman gig.

He did an impressive feat with the highest rated song of 2014 by the precontest jury.

Estrella's butcher ended up third to last and got less than half the votes of the also ill received Casanova by Elisa.

”Voices” - Lyrics
There’s fire in the rain
But we’ll get up again
We’re thousand miles apart
But we’ll overcome

I’ll never let you down
World is turning us around
But I feel it in my heart
Let’s make a brand new start

Can’t stop us now forget the haters
Get up and live and make it matter
There’s more to life so go ahead and
sing it out

Can you hear
a million voices
Calling out
in the rain
You know we got
a million choices
So go get out
and let it rain

A million voices voices
A million voices voices
A million voices voices
A million voices

There’s fire in the rain
And I can feel your pain
Painting all the scars in
The colors of change

Don’t let them hold you down
Don’t let them hold you down
Go shooting like a star
The star you are

Can’t stop us now forget the haters
Get up and live and make it matter
There’s more to life so go ahead and
sing it out

Can you hear
a million voices
Calling out
in the rain
You know we got
a million choices
So go get out
and let it rain

Can you hear them
A million voices voices
Can you hear them
A million voices voices
Can you hear them
A million voices voices
Can you hear them
A million voices

Can you hear them?
Can you hear them?

Can you hear
a million voices
Calling out
in the rain
You know we got
a million choices
So go get out
and let it rain

Can you hear them
A million voices voices
Can you hear them
A million voices voices
Can you hear them
A million voices voices
Can you hear them
A million voices

Is anyone else thinking about how this time next year will be like the aftermath of a terrorist attack once we've heard the clip of Olivia Pettersson

The weekly write-up of Swedish journalist reviews:

Charlotte
‘Still Young’ is a classic, catchy, uptempo schlager with an updated production. This is wonderfully warm and gives you a similar in feeling to ‘Här står jag’. Of the old schlager hits it’s most similar to Carola’s 'Evighet', it’s the type of songs that would’ve been favorite to win Mello around 2007-2008. More than one reviewer has described the more modern production as inspired by Smith & Thell (Statue anyone?). The chorus is very strong. If the presentation is good she should easily be through to at least AC on Saturday. It might however be this year's most derivative entry and the verses are rather bleak and plastic.

Predicted: 1st-4th

Emil Assergård
‘If everything goes to shit’ is simple and effective pop for rural Sweden. This will be joy on to watch and has the same target audience as Drängarna but with less cheese & dirt. The rousing chorus brings a smile to your face. Of all the Swedish rural pop in Mello history(which generally hasn't done very well), this probably has the widest appeal. Emil is also an established artist for his target audience. For those two reasons alone he could be very dangerous on Saturday.

Predicted: 3rd-7th

Klara Hammarström
‘Beat of Broken Hearts’ goes for a forgettable run-of-the-mill early Taylor Swift type of song. It does have a clearer chorus than her last attempt. The similar type of message as in ‘If everything goes to shit’ makes them feel misplaced back-to-back. Klara needs to excel on stage to be remembered. Qualification is however not entirely out of the question considering she doesn't have to contend with Frida who has gone back to working at Coop in the weeks running up to AC.

Predicted: 4th-7th

Mustasch
‘Contagious’ is Megadeth with a melodic chorus. Mustache do their own thing in the verses but when the hook hits it’s appropriately adapted for a wider target group. Great heavy metal that easily would’ve been a contender for the win at the turn of the last decade.

Predicted: 1st-5th

Elisa
‘Who you are’ is a perfected version of the most tired concept in ESC history. In spite of the five great modulations sprinkled throughout the song there’s nothing to help historians date this to 2021. Sonja Aldén had great success with the same song in 2007 and you could easily fool a schlager nerd by claiming this was an Swiss entry from 30 years ago. On the plus side Elisa’s wide televote appeal usually propels her to victory in any televote competition she enters. As long as Elisa doesn’t dress up as a showgirl and sing about forbidden topics she got extraordinary voter appeal as the granddaughter/sister/girlfriend every comatose Swede wished they had. Ljunggren & Pling’s incredibly classic and conservative schlager ballad will give the audience chills if delivered well, so don't count them out!

Predicted: 2nd-7th

Baila Baila’ manages to bring in all the Latino pop clichés together in one song. A very light and fruity non-alcoholic summer cocktail that children will love. A hook similar to 'När Ni Tar Saken' doesn’t disappoint.

Predicted: 2nd-5th

‘Voices’ has borrowed the entire sound from The Weeknd but is still not a carbon copy of any one song in particular. It’s an interesting blend of different rhythms including electro-pop and latino. Bagpipes in the intro are followed by a mid-tempo pop (some say ballad) with a clear chorus and other effective hooks and one more key change than Charlotte Perelli’s ‘Still Young’. Some reviewers find the repetitive nature to be an annoyance while others don't mind at all. The vocals are tingling but demands impressive live delivery for ‘Voices’ to really shine.

Predicted: 1st-3rd

By "heavy metal that would've been a contender to win at the turn of the last decade", are they literally referring to JUST YOHIO in 2013?

I guess they mean that there weren't any competitive rock entries then, even rather unimpressive rock entries made it to AC/Finalen.

Why are all the replies to the (Åh) När ni... YouTube video in Japanese?

I have no idea. If I had to guess it probably means something completely different in Japanese, Sweden has exported light pop and Schlager to Japan for decades and they rarely care about the original meaning of the lyrics.

One famous example is 'Carameldansen' (literally 'The Caramel Dance') that sounds like 'Yummy, Nice Dance' or 'Yummy Horse Dance' in Japanese.

They further misinterpreted the lyrics "Dance with us, clap your hands" as "I don't want any Balsamic vinegar after all".
