New Music Fridays 2025

The Spotify algorithm has been pushing the very good (and somewhat Metric-esque) previous Sunflower Bean Champagne Taste pretty hard, and I like the new one too:

No longer Glume, no longer on Italians Do It Better, new album out this week. Imaginary Friend jumped out as the brightest, poppiest thing on there:

Two tracks from the Étienne de Crécy album:

I've been rubbish recently but here's a little catch up -

2 for 2 in new singles. This is nice

This is a gorgeous collab

Released a couple months early but this could be a good afternoon in the garden listen

No idea who he is but I like this pop-version-of-War On Drugs track (kinda like James Arthur is doing but without the annoying voice)

I really like Joesef, he reminds me of Troye Sivan before he became really annoying and gimmicky

I really like that Soda Blonde one.

The two new Joesef songs are solid but not quite hitting like the best material from the debut yet.

Another good one from Joy Crookes, a bit more boppy this time:

First new song from Charlotte OC in ages:

I got a bit bored of The Horrors' album but it ends on a bright note:

This one from the Elton and Brandi album stood out to me as being quite lovely. It is very much a Brandi song:

A blast from the past. I really like this, I guess it isn't so far away from Empire of the Sun:

The new Aly and AJ is solid but not as good as What It Feels Like:

This is a cute fun bop:

Glorious big shiny eighties pop with a harder edge:

Another pretty good 5SOS solo effort:

Former Pipette Gwenno in nostalgic mood:

Reactions: KNT
Franck Roger is a producer/DJ I have been following on radar after discovering a couple of nice deep house / nu disco tunes. This new one is more downtempo and funky but it's really good

I'm obsessed with these 80s inspired blue eyed soul singer Tom Bailey. Every song is a vibe. The prodution on this is delicious

Another indie pop singer I've started following as her last single "Peach Sky" was amazing... this isn't as dark and moody as that but a nice folk feel

And Jacob Alon is my favourite singer-songwriter discovery so far this year. He reminds me a bit of Jeff Buckley, also Thom Yorke. New one from him

More plinky plonky stuff... new collab from Birdy

This is such a blatant rip off "Lullaby" by Shawn Mullins but once I get past it I might like it thanks to the Sheryl appearance. Would love these to try an album together

I really like the Jacob Alon one. First saw them on Jools Holland doing Fairy in a Bottle and it was so delicate and lovely. I think this is the best one since that song.

Love both but my favourite now is Don’t Fall Asleep - I dismissed it at first but it has grown on me so much with repeated listens.

Feels like a bold question but this is a typically rousing bit of eighties influenced power pop:

A welcome return from Cut Copy:

Love the layered vocals on the new Aly and AJ one:

A bop and a mood:

Ooh :disco: none of those I found on Friday (which was already a BIG week actually) so they are nice finds, particularly the Cut Copy and Tatyana ones!

Also in a nod to the power of the NMF thread, @FetchFugly that Drew Sycamore song from your first post is actually now one of my fave pop songs of the year...

Loren Kramar contributes a swooping and swooning track to a new film:

Lava La Rue features on this psychedelic disco track

Emily King returns with a sparse acoustic ballad. Her voice remains on point...

More summery psychedelic pop from Leisure - very 70s. Both songs on this double A are great

Another fabulous pop song from Diamond Cafe. Never puts a foot wrong this guy. Last couple of tracks have been gold, hope we're getting a new album

I kind of swerved those Lana covers but that is much more like it from Loren.

It sounds like Diamond Cafe very much wears his influences on his sleeve. Worse inspiration to take and that is a great track though.

A very Bronski beat from newly solo Sarah Nimmo:

Excellent song from the new Låpsley album:
