Pet Shop Boys - Nonetheless (new album)

My first listen yesterday was quite delightful. Why Am I Dancing? an INSTANT FAVOURITE

His vocals might well be AI by this point, but I can overlook it.

Why am I dancing? really should be a single. They are going with A new bohemia next though.

I see the bonus re-recordings haven't made it to streaming. I'm sure they are not required but I still need the 2CD deluxe edition. Not at the twenty three pounds HMV are asking mind...

I’m also enjoying it, but it’s yet to truly bed in. I’m yet to play the bonus disc of re-recordings, though.

And every night there's a busy trade...

Love is the law and you can't regulate it.

What a wonderful closer. So good lyrically, moody and epic.

This album is holding up so well for me. It was my listening of choice this morning post-Eurovision. All enjoyable, though I like The Schlager Hit Parade and The Secret of Happiness slightly less than everything else.

Annually showed up this week. They apparently recorded one other song (Adrenaline) with James Ford. The four covers were done for a performance at a friend's birthday which didn't happen in the end.

They seem to like being back on Parlophone for back catalogue purposes. Digital releases of all the singles are planned and a potential CD single boxset... I dread to think how expensive :D

The trouble with those remakes is that the originals are impossible to improve on, so hearing these just left me underwhelmed.

The two old tracks (1982!?) sound very Soft Cell to me vocally and melodically. Obviously the production has been updated.

Just interesting the early influences there.

They are both Bobby O inspired, especially I've got plans (involving you). The 'I don't know, I don't know why' part is such an earworm.

It is very good, though at the same time it makes me very curious as to what the original demo sounds like.

I am currently watching their very good Isle of Wight headline set from last night on Sky Arts.

It was a bit of a choice though to play the three singles from the new album back to back, as much as I think they are wonderful.

They've gone four singles deep with this album:

Just the one new song which dates back to the same time as the tracks released on the Lost EP. It is a decent b-side though. Chris handling the vocals on a German demo of Schlager-hit parade is an interesting curio.

Album being quite thoroughly rinsed:

Slightly dubious about what their version of Dark End of the Street will be like.

Choosing not to think about how much I’ve spent on this album so far considering I haven’t connected with it much

It’s tough being a loon

If you’re going to expand it, include all the bsides so far.

At least the b-sides are widely available, unlike the Japan bonus track.

I'm sure they will include all these tracks in five years or so when they request us to purchase again for Further Listening.

Any ageing homosexuals for a pricey PSB tea set?

EDIT: Web shop currently down, presumably broken by the demand.

I'm not sure yet about All the Young Dudes, even in the hands of Richard X. I do love that Boy Harsher remix of New London boy though.

Me too darl. It's never been a song I've much liked and they do have FORM recently for HORRIBLE COVER VERSIONS
