It's so dramatic, I don't see it as underwhelming at all! Obv it's a completely different style to You Set Fire but it's more of a throwback to earlier stuff which I love. This is mature, sophisticated and melodramatic - just what I think she should be doing in 2021
Church is a like rather than a love for me. It does feel like a statement first single, like Tina is making it clear this time around is a little different. I certainly appreciate the drama, and I like how it feels intentionally slightly off kilter (like with how the first chorus comes in), but it gets a tad repetitive.
I'm sure normal service will be resumed with a big ol ballad or five.
