Taylor Swift - Reputation

That is really crap. ZERO substance to anything this era.

It does all feel a bit EMPTY this time around.

Maybe she felt compelled to address the vitriol head on but personally I’d rather she just stuck to writing solid pop songs.

It's certainly much better than "Gorgeous" but it's nothing very exciting either. We still have 11 songs left and the songs we have so far might make more sense in the context of the album.

I quite like "Call it What You Want" on first listen (in a album track #12 sort of way) but @Jark hit the nail on the head. Everything we heard so far is just so hollow and labored this time around. 1989 was definitely a very thought-out move but everything about the songs, melodies, lyrics were more memorable and less forced.

@Slave is right too, she seems a lot more BENT on making each single a statement or narrative on the media rather than just writing a good pop song, which she used to be really good at.

"Look What You Made Me Do" is probably one of the most hateful songs to come out of 2017.

I don’t MIND ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ as a one off. In the same way as I don’t really like ‘Bad Blood’ but it was very much a misnomer amongst the other singles.

But the signs are that a lot of the album is going to be treading that path and I’m already bored by it, to be honest.

I really, really want the album to be good because she’s been reliable for some great pop songs over the last 6 years. It’s just that very little to have emerged so far suggests this is going to pan out similarly.

Look What You Made Me Do was the most interesting she's been in a long time.

I'm surprised at how different the other songs that have been shat out into the ether are because I thought the scorned former media darling theme was fun. Nobody gives a fuck about how much you like your boring new nameless actor boyfriend.

She can't win really, I'm not a huge fan but there's nothing like the internet to make me feel sympathetic towards someone :D

"Taylor's so basic, do something different *stuff about white people being awful*"
"She's trying too hard, sad! Go back to pop you child"

I don't know she's really supposed to do. I've been unconsciously avoiding big pop releases for the last year or two, what's going on? Maybe I'm worried that I'll feel the urge to weigh in with my opinion, but that seems to be happening anyway.

I hope you understand me
Diddy x

I think it's her shtick that annoys people. She tries so hard to seem 'reflective' and unbothered but you know she's sitting somewhere behind a screen in an INTERNET CAFE Googling Adele's album sales and trolling Rihanna's YouTube videos.

I actually don't even actively HATE any of the new songs or even her but it does feel like statement over substance and it's all just a bit limp. Particularly after coming off of an album that was oozing upper pop echolon on more than one occasion.

"This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" is just a bit too meme-tastic. But I do hope "Dress" is a PJ Harvey cover.

It's a tiny thing but her name being the only one in all caps on the credits under the track list is a bit of a lol

At least nine of her song names sound like clickbait hashtags. #relatable #goals

Bring back promotional postcards.

EVERYONE knows that the legit way to inflate those sales is by releasing Rock and World Remixes along with the original versions :disco:

the concept of a WORLD MIX version of Look What you've made me do would SNATCH MY WIG.

Listening through now...

Getaway Car is pure 1989 and sounds like a major hit. Delicate is fucking fantastic.

Dress is like a slightly Drake-ified Wildest Dreams (in a good way) and Dancing With Our Hands Tied is a nice change of pace for her. Slight 90s vibes.

Seems the album is divisible into romantic/love songs and songs about Taylor's broken reputation. No prizes for guessing which the GOOD ONES are.

OMG, King of My Heart sounds like Cher circa 2002 :D cheesy as FUCK! I love it!

Weirdly, there were no copies of this in HMV or Fopp in Glasgow this afternoon. Fopp had filled a very obvious gap with her other albums, HMV had a whole empty row with an "Out Friday" but no stock.

Hmmm...

I got it in Tesco.

I think that means I am officially a basic bitch.

A very positive Guardian review has got me interested in this. But not interested enough to listen just yet.

Hated it first listen, growing on me second listen. My favourite is “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” which everybody else seems to vehemently HATE. :D

My first impression is that the album loses its way towards the end - I was hoping for something quite special to close it but the last few songs just seem a bit aimless.

She really has got a skewed reality of how people see her though. That song where she talks about her “reputation has never been worse, so you must really like me” made me laugh. She’s hardly in the same league as... well, any major star who’s fallen from grace.

I completely agree. The album kind of dies off from track 12 onwards. The only good songs Jack Antonoff brought are "Getaway Car" and "Call It What You Want".

That aside I really enjoy the rest of the album. Most of the Max tracks are great (hell I might even be coming around to "Gorgeous") and the production is wonderful.

Yeah, too long - a twelve track album with 3 "bonus tracks" would have served the material better but she's clearly in that stage of her career where there is no-one around to say no to her. But, y'know, on one listen, a good few songs have stuck already.

...although I am now listening to The Stooges as a palate cleanser.

This is good. Not amazing but I'm pleased with it. The production is great if not a little over-baked on some songs

08 ‘…Ready For It?’
09 ‘End Game’ (feat. Ed Sheeran and Future) - Questionable features but the "reputation" chant and her verse are great
05 ‘I Did Something Bad’
05 ‘Don’t Blame Me’
08 ‘Delicate’ - Took a few listens. but i'm on board
06 ‘Look What You Made Me Do’
04 ‘So It Goes…’
07 ‘Gorgeous
09 'Getaway Car’ - Probably the best song on the album, the most straight forward pop song
08 ‘King Of My Heart’
08 ‘Dancing With Our Hands Tied’
08 ‘Dress’
08 ‘This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things’ -Ridiculous but sums her up completely :D
09 ‘Call It What You Want’
06 ‘New Year’s Day’ - Works as a closer
