Labour (and Conservative) Party SPLIT

No idea what to make of this. I feel for Luciana - I have no doubt she's dealt with a horrific amount of anti-semitic abuse. No idea about the rest. Chuks is a bit smarmy, isn't he?

Chuka Umunna is no big loss. He’s always come across as an arrogant, self-serving career politician of the worst kind.

Correct in every last word.

But this sucks. We wanted a full-on Tory split, not this. It's so close and the fact that Labour have cracked first will just embolden the far-right wing of the Conservatives.

On a scale of Tommy Crooks leaving The Fall to Geri leaving the Spice Girls, this feels about a Paul leaving S Club 7 re. brand damage although I doubt Labour will change their name to L CLub 6.

Of course there won't be by-elections but any more and a general election might look appealing to May.

It's almost hard to believe that centre left moderates don't feel particularly welcome in Corbyn's Labour Party.

The historical parallels seem insane. Tory government headed by a stubborn headed female PM, the labour party move more to the left and a bunch of centrist Labour MPs split away a couple of years on.

I look forward to the Liberal Democrats merging with them in 8 years time, and they'll become the Independent Liberal Democrats. Or Liberal Independent Democrats (LID).

Is there any chance the moderate Conservatives who were members of that cross-party approach group to Brexit will join them do we think? Anna Soubry for example?

Anna Soubry may not be pro-Brexit, but she's not otherwise out of line with Conservative values.

It felt inevitable that this would happen at some point.

I'm not especially sad to see any of them go, although it's a shame Luciana Berger is leaving like this. Their ideas are outdated (and despite what they say, just as ideological as anyone else's) and don't fit with the party anymore. Luckily I think it's going to be much harder for them to bring down Corbyn from the outside.

...and how long we're likely to have to wait to get rid of the Tories, I suspect.

:D

Having to make your first apology for racism not even 6 hours after launching.

I've just noticed that Labour's seats have gone down from 262 to 248 since the 2017 election. Independent MPs have got up from 1 to 8... Did I miss all of them?

That's my hope

There was Frank Field, Jared O’Hara and Fiona Onasanya before today

The "funny tinge" gaffe really shows that they're not sending their best.

I could understand this splinter more if there was a likeable, popular figure on the right of the party to build around but they're all fucking useless, they've just spent the last three years moaning about Corbyn. All they want to do is block a left-wing government.

And imagining this new group looking at the massive economic inequality in the UK and deciding "be nicer to the people exploiting you!" is their leading message is making my head spin. It's like they live on a different planet.

Fuck me what a prize moron - if he can't understand the VERY BASICS of what the LABOUR PARTY is, what the hell is he doing joining it?
