Yes but the numbers weren't there to do anything else in 2010 - an "everyone against the Tories" coalition wouldn't have worked and Labour had lost too many seats so trying to cling on would have seemed undemocratic. Of course, given what passes for "democratic" now, I wish they'd tried a bit harder.
Agreed, hence my first comment. A "sorry guys, we admit you won but we're too ideologically apart to join at the hip. You give it a go and we'll just veto what we don't like" would have been FINE
