FAB draw for Malta!

Just from my gut feeling on how this flowed, I think Ukraine and San Marino are the ones that pop the most. Obviously James as well, but a star that bright would shine wherever it is in the night sky.
Ending the show with such unbridled joy can only be good for San Marino's televote. I just hope they don't get KEiiNO'ed

Anyway this draw is bizarre to me...

Cyprus and Albania aren't a million miles away in terms of performance, and Albania in second again is mega harsh.
Russia 5th two contests in a row.
Back-to-back female empowerment songs from Russia and Malta is odd, and Destiny shoved away in 6th feels like a waste when she could have been swapped with Greece or Serbia and still have a similar flow to the show.
The first half is very female-heavy so why put four male acts in the last five?
There's a bit of a saggy run in the middle with Spain, Moldova, and Germany.
Lithuania and Ukraine are both mega high energy so pairing them is weird (and Lithuania will get completely lost); although I'm guessing the break may come between them?

(TLDR: I'm just sulking because this doesn't look good for Destiny).
Agree with this completely! We need Björkman

I can't stop looking at the order, I think it's fantastic and Saturday night will be blinding! If I was given one swap I'd swap Malta or Russia with Spain for the reasons everyone's given many times above. :D

I don’t think we need to worry about songs being too close together, judging by the amount of nervous padding for time the hosts were doing in the semis :D

*frantically blurts out qualifiers before the end*

I mean, 100% this post!

I'm especially annoyed about Cyprus opening (although that's not actually the worst position for them), mainly because from a party POV it's one of the songs people will have heard of and be anticipating watching (along with Iceland and 'the Flo Rida one') and it's being pissed out first!

OH WELL, plenty more to look forward to :disco:

I heard a interview with Bjorkgod about how they made the running order a few years back. Iirc the priority order goes something like this:
1. Identify acts that needs extra set up/clean up.
2. Identifying the most common denominators, this will not immediately place any songs but is important to be able to space out similar performances.
3. Place bombastic/quirky openers/closers to the show.
4. Try to have something interesting before ad breaks (akin to opener/closer but doesn’t need to be uptempo).
5. Give the better acts a place to shine (its usually the Contest Producer making the order, he should know the SF results and the media buzz).
6. Give a good flow to the overall show.
7. Make it fair for potential winners.

This running order is such a bad sign for Destiny that I don’t even think she was top 2 on Tuesday.
The producers doesn’t really care if they screw any chances for miss potential 5th placer here.

I'd really be more inclined to think Destiny's draw is more a sign of relatively green producers being in charge of the running order this year than them publicly giving a hint she essentially didn't live up to the billing on Tuesday...

OK this is getting absolutely ridiculous now. I know it's the Friday lull and we all need stuff to talk about and to an extent it's the same every year, but I don't think I have EVER seen so much speculation about so much hypothetical producer witchcraft that is going into this running order.

It seems like EVERY position in the running order this year is giving a clear indication of EXACTLY how every song did in the semi-finals with the jury or the televote or how much confidence the producers have in them to succeed. I hate to break it to everyone (not just here I might add, but I'm here now so you're the ones who are getting this), but the TV producers of Eurovision, while passionate about the show, do NOT CARE about the ins and outs of the scoring as much as we do. :D

When you boil it down, there are by and large two rules that go into creating the running order. Just two. The spoken rule is to create an entertaining, dynamic show that flows from a production perspective, and I think when we see the show tomorrow night we'll all agree that this sequence gets a massive tick in that regard.

The more unspoken rule I guess is not to completely screw over the big favourites, and by and large they have adhered to that as well. Yes, it's an unfortunate position for Malta, but I think the much more likely interpretation of any of this is simply the production team coming to the correct conclusion that it isn't their job to do anyone any favours, and focusing on making a good show.

Yes it may turn out on Sunday that certain countries over or underperformed in the semis and perhaps this is reflected, but by and large if you just looked at the performances and didn't have any idea about the odds or how songs had been received during the week, you'd see a pretty good sequence.

Okay we've got him to do five paragraphs, how much more do you think it needs to get him to take someone hostage

As good as Newman can hope for, it's a really good 1st half draw and he's not surrounded by heavy hitters :basil:
I don’t want to get any hope up whatsoever but it really isn’t a bad draw, the full performance is better than expected, and he is the first male performer of the evening.

Could 19th be within reach?

I see 22nd for the UK with Spain in last place 🔮

All this FALSE HOPE every damn year. The song is THERE, and is OK. The UK are no longer part of the EU and politics are going to play a big part as ever so I wouldn’t actually rule out NUL POINTS. Anything better will be a blessing.

In vacuum yes.
But, who is genuinely gonna think the UK is the most interesting out of the whole bunch and actually pull out the phone and vote? It's not like he can expect any jury favours...

He’s the first male! *clutches at straws* :D

what the logique there, people will be so thirsty they’ll all go insane over him (and forget the guys that appear later)?

Hahahaha, nooo Rita! Europe doesn't hate... much :eyes:

It's more like, is there a single thing the UK entry does better than San Marino?

Yeah true... I have a friend in the UK who can't understand why it's expected to do so badly when it's a "good song". I've tried to explain that's not enough to make people PICK UP THE PHONES though 😵
