Considering how awful the image of the contest was after two years of near-lasts + winners we didn't vote for after 2008, god only knows how dreadful the mainstream perception of it would've been if we hadn't had Lordi (+ Verka) recently to thin out a run of the contest at its most 'ethno' (and brilliant tbh, but it wasn't exactly naturally appealing to the average British viewer)It wouldn't make a list of my personal favourites, but I think Lordi are one of the most important winners of the 21st century in terms of giving the Contest a shot of pop culture relevance at a point when it was getting increasingly fringe-y.
