Belinda Carlisle - Big, Big Love

Yeah, Diane hasn’t written anything decent since Can’t Fight The Moonlight, so hopefully there are tastier treats in the offing…

She (Belinda) appears to have released a Christmas single 'Silver Bells'. The b-side 'Do You Hear What I Hear' has popped up in my latest Spotify release radar list this morning.

She really does have a very good go at belting out 'Do You Hear What I Hear'. I'd almost forgotten she could sing like that.

While Belinda has “no expectations” when it comes to the performance of the material, another of her ventures – an all-star collaboration with Dolly Parton, Debbie Harry, Gloria Estefan and Cyndi Lauper, from the soundtrack to the forthcoming ‘80 for Brady’ movie, starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda – is sure to be a hit

:disco:

She performed Big Big Love on Radio 2 today. Snippet (please) here:

Yes it doesn't bode well. Hopefully the studio is a little less sickly than the orchestral version but I suspect the 'I'm gonna find it' bits are a chorus killer in whatever form.

I’m not sure that setting is the best place to judge. Roaring pop classic HIAPOE was reduced to sludge there, the only thing that sounded good was the Carpenters cover, which is perfect fodder for that studio orchestra sound.

It's not bad on first listen. I'm still really looking forward to the album though!

Digital retouching has a lot to answer for- her face in that video looks odd and I saw her last Monday and it did NOT look like that!

She looks great in that BBC Radio 2 performance too.

I am definitely feeling more hopeful for the song based on that clip though. It is lighter and more brisk than the orchestral performance suggested (probably not surprisingly).

It sounds like a big big chorus which is reminiscent of some of her hits.

I did a bit of an internal :eyes: at her comment about how she wouldn’t change a thing about the 25 years she spent intermittently off her face on various substances.

Well I don’t know about you but I woke up this morning and chose the Bel version of Both Sides Now

Thoughts? :eyes:

I don't think single covers really make a difference in this day and age.

Yes

“The working title is ‘Once Upon a Time in California’, because that’s really where it all began for me. Everything’s done, all the artwork – I just have to finish the songs,”

There is a 5 track EP coming soon though (including Big Big Love)
