Miley Cyrus - Endless Summer Vacation + grammy winner at last

Also, new leak from the Younger Now era called "Memphis to Mississippi"

It's a bit more ...Dead Petz-y than Younger Now so I can see why it maybe didn't fit with her vision for the album, but it's good.

she's doing a Backyard Sessions on Disney+ featuring 7 songs from the album and various others, out Friday

OMG that GUITAR :o:disco:

Reminds me of this (one of the greatest songs ever)

TOUR please. But not the type with fuck all tickets available.

Moopy has been in too much pain recently :(

Apparently is very dancefloor driven and flowers might be the worst song there :D I FEAR FOR FUNKY!

oh, I'm all in for a collective Miley fan MELTDOWN :disco:

so far the bits'n'bobs I've heard sound fabulous you miserable prissy queens

Actually scratch that - I'm listening now and it's actually quite good, maybe it turns into a bangerz album but the first half of album is NOT that. Jaded is great. The first 3 tracks after Flowers all have some Americana influences and the Brandi Carlisle duet is so 90s. You is a lovely blues-pop number reminiscent of Gaga's You And I.

I'm at Handstand and it's taken a HUGE turn into a direction I don't like so we'll see how it goes...

Violet Chemistry has a Fleetwood Mac sensibility in its rhythm and melody but she's DROWNED it in synths and ruined it

HAS STUART PRICE PRODUCED THIS ALBUM?

The Sia duet is every Sia song you've ever heard. Vocally Miley sounds great but here's another song I don't need to hear in 2023.

OK I flicked through the rest and will go back later but it's not as bad as I'd feared, maybe 5 or 6 songs are potential growers. But yes, it is not Plastic Hearts.

(felt cute, might delete later in case I U-turn massively in 2 months)

I really can’t get a read of if I’m going to like it or not based on these posts

Plastic Hearts took two years to grow on me, so I don't imagine I'll love this instantly.

I still think Plastic Hearts was mostly filler 🤷‍♂️

I agree. It had some absolutely blinding moments but a lot of middling stuff I can't even remember, despite all the times I've played it.

Flowers made me want to pre- order this but I forgot- these reviews are making me think that was a good idea.

Jaded is the immediate standout, Wonder Woman also nice, You and Violet Chemistry up there too... going in for my third listen shortly, they're starting to distinguish themselves.

to flesh out my thoughts from yesterday, having played this twice in full now...

the "AM" section (first 5/6 tracks) is fucking boring. Jaded feels like a slog to get through, Rose Colored Lenses is a bit better but still feels laboured in terms of the songwriting. Thousand Miles is a real fucking snooze, and the attempt to turn it into a Harry Styles track at the end actually made me angry.

You is a fantastic song, but whatever they've done with the production is bizarre. it feels audibly like a song that's been through many iterations, the final one being this uncomfortable mix of raw rock ballad and flat electronic pop song. a real shame, but at least we have the far superior live version.

not sure if Handstand is a great song per se but it's interesting and the way it goes all electronic to segue into the second half of the album is well done.

River... like many songs here feels very first-draft. like, that chorus needed some serious work, it's lazy. the middle 8 is hot but over way too soon. Violet Chemistry is probably the best track on the album? a more successful banger than River. but even there the chorus has some odd melodic things going on and the vocal is buried too deep.

I surprisingly don't hate Muddy Feet, quite good. Wildcard needs more plays. Island feels like it might have been the blueprint for this record - it's relaxed, breezy, sensual, a properly good song. Wonder Woman wants very badly to be Golden G String but it's undercooked.

the whole thing just feels surprisingly demoish, flatly produced (Kid Harpoon is a horrible fit for her) and melodically meh. I'm quite surprised the label allowed this album to be released in its current state actually.

I'm surprised to hear the hate because I think it's wall to wall strong very strong. It's a vibe. I'm very into chill and ballads recently so it's tickling those bones nicely. Stranded is my initial favourite. It's just so NICE. :)

(But yeah I totally see how this isn't what people want from her or were expecting)

Loving this instantly! This and Pink's new album have some similarities and I love the vibe. Much better than Plastic Hearts which I could never get on board with.

I didn’t care much for it after a first listen. Plastic Hearts was a lot more immediate. I’ll give it a few more listens

I do think Plastic Hearts has filler, maybe not as much as being suggested, but it’s not an album I listen to in full.

But there’s two types of great albums: the cohesive, sum of its parts album, and the albums that are a mix of highs and lows but the highs are so special and important you can’t discount the album they’re from. And I don’t think the ‘lows’ on the last album are even that bad.

i'm only halfway through the album but i read somewhere that Endless Summer Vacation is like her High Road, whereas Plastic Hearts was her Rainbow, and that made me sad. i hated High Road.

(by somewhere I mean ATRL but let's pretend i don't visit that vile website)

wtf Miley :disco: This album is the closest she's ever been to Hannah Montana since she buried that bitch! Plastic Hearts this ain't and THANK GOD.

Let's not fight girls, we all know she's abandoning this era by June and will start post cryptic Tiktoks about how the REAL HER is cumming.

who in their right mind would pit Kesha and Miley HEAD TO HEAD? God, Gays sometimes are baffling.

First listen scores:

10 Flowers - I still love this
07 Jaded - This is fine?
07 Rose Colored Glasses - This is fine?

08.5 A Thousand Miles - I like this one a lot. The chorus is very pretty and she sounds great. I hear @funky's Americana
06 You - I have nothing to say about this one
