this weekend really improved things, I was trending my hopes on Moldova and Bulgaria for a good while there.

I think this year so far is FINE! At least a lot of the entries are upbeat/"fun" rather than being a slew of dirge-y ballads.

There's a LOT of stuff here that screams "revamp and suddenly becomes more competitive in rehearsals too", although in terms of confirmed entries it's probably just Ukraine and Italy that could possibly be in contention for the upper echelons - although I think Estonia could possibly also overperform expectations depending how other selections go over the next few weeks (less so if Poland choose River for example).

1. Italy
2. Spain
3. Ukraine
-
4. Albania
5. Czech Republic
6. Ireland
7. Israel

8. Moldova
-
9. Lithuania
10. Latvia
11. Estonia
12. North Macedonia
13. Bulgaria

1. Italy
2. Lithuania
3. Czech Republic
4. Spain
5. Ukraine
6. Israel
7. Ireland
8. Albania
9. Moldova
10. North Macedonia
11. Latvia
12. Estonia
13. Bulgaria

Italy and Lithuania really add something to the field, albeit at opposite ends of the competitiveness scale.

Hoping at least Israel, Albania and North Macedonia are elevated by revamps.

The bottom 3 are unsalvageable.

UPDATE
1. Italy (though Sweden would be #1 if they selected Cornelia)
2. Ukraine (Considering these guys are currently fighting in Kyiv they deserve to win if they manage to make it to Turin)
3. Spain
4. Netherlands (This is already a grower chez soldi)
5. Poland

I only REALLY care about

1. Italy
2. Israel
3. Spain
4. Albania
5. Ukraine
6. Czech Republic
7. Ireland

As many have noted, lots of fun fluff but not many POTENTIAL WINNERS!
I think we will see an understandable Ukraine win.

I'm not sure they'll even be there at this rate :(
I think even if the entire country ends up under Russian control, they could still have the Ukrainian broadcaster(s) running, albeit in exile. It just depends on whether they would see Eurovision as a worthwhile project over the next few months and whether the Kalush Orchestra would want to/be able to take part.

I feel like it’s a big push to get a Ukrainian entry this year, but it also feels incredibly important to do so, even though Eurovision is quite trivial compared to what is going on across the continent at the minute.

This is probably a discussion for elsewhere but I'll start it here because I'm like that (:tongueout:): do we think ESC 2022 should even go ahead with the atrocities in Ukraine going on? I know we all WANT it to go ahead because without it our lives are an empty, hopeless shell (:eyes:) but I'm not sure that I'll feel that comfortable about it if people are losing their lives in a country which would ordinarily participate (and which I think is highly unlikely to do so - they have other priorities right now)

So long as they remain alive, I can see quite a bit of effort going into getting them to Turin. It's absolutely priceless PR both for Ukraine and the contest.

YES OBVIOUSLY - what ELSE will the poor Ukrainians that still have TV do with their evenings?! NOT WATCH MICHAEL BEN DAVID MINCING FOR HIS LIFE DURING THE SEMI-FINALS? DON'T be RIDICULOUS!

Eurovision has gone ahead during wars in the past, and the WHOLE POINT of it is to bring Europe together so yes it should absolutely go ahead.

I do feel had Alina Pash been somehow ALLOWED to compete she would have inevitably had to withdraw. I can only imagine her song would had inflamed things even further had it made it to Turin.

To quote OUR FORUM ORACLE
I say push ahead as though nothing is going on, let individuals make their own choices regarding whether they still want to go and take the risk because I would rather die than not be able to witness the contest as normal

And whatever happens, they really should allow for a good chunk of the interval act to be related to UKRAINE.

Quite frankly I hope Ukraine DOESN'T win and they get the full BOSNIA 93 treatment - STANDING OVATIONS and HOME CROWD LEVEL ROARS, before summarily finishing SIXTEENTH at the business end of proceedings :disco:

I hope they win with 936 points :disco:

I imagine we're about to enter a period of Jamala having Rybak levels oversaturation :D

Do you think we’ll be getting Jamala at the final?
Definitely. It’ll be the focal point of the entire evening with a Ukrainian victory being the cherry on the top, and rightly so.

To say this is REPORTEDLY the WORST YEAR EVER I’m very fond of my top ten:

1. Netherlands
2. Italy
3. Ukraine
4. Spain
5. Poland
6. Albania
7. France
8. Romania
9. Estonia
10. Ireland
(11. Serbia :disco:)
