Gladiators (2024)

Given it's utter flop on the last revival, i'm surprised the BBC are going anywhere near it.

Bring on the spornos (does this term still get used?)

I think the Sky series was a miss - the Gladiators were basically what you see at any city centre gym at peak hours.

Confirmed for 11 × 60 minute shows, Saturday primetime, filming at Utilita Arena Sheffield.

Are any former Gladiators returning? I remember they done a new batch of Gladiators already going back 15 years or so ago and it only lasted for one season on Sky One. I am surprised the BBC is taking it on. Just goes to show you the quality gap between the BBC and ITV is actually quite small.

The problem with the Sky One Gladiators was that every single one of the male Gladiators and most of the female ones wanted to be the new Wolf but they all came across as arrogant, charmless bellends instead.

I think the 'quality gap' is more about production and presentation rather than the show itself.

I can’t remember much other than a very attractive man who I mostly tuned in to watch.

I loved Gladiators back in the day, but think it should be left in the 90’s.

Don't think I've seen Blankety Blank since the Lily Savage days, but wasn't part of the appeal that it was always a bit shit?

It’s exactly the same show and you are probably right. Saturday night on BBC and ITV are of a very similar ilk though and I can see very little difference in production value. I Can See Your Voice, The Wheel, Catchpoint could all easily be ITV shows and have no better production value than the likes of The Masked Singer/Dancer or Saturday Night Takeaway for example. I would be very surprised if this is not just the exact same show as the 90’s version with younger Gladiators for a bit of nostalgia otherwise what is the point?

I'm willing (indeed keen) to give it a go, but it is kind of depressing how there seems to be so few new ideas in Saturday night TV.

Did we hear that Falcon died not so long ago?

Yes was really sad about this. I remember her being lovely and gracious.

In other news I am hoping to see the reboot in Sheffield, not sure how I feel about Bradley Walsh and his son hosting though! Was not expecting that.
I see the first new Gladiators are starting to be announced, ex professional rugby player Jodie Ounsley is 'Fury'
They will bring back some of the classic events and add new ones.

Can you all imagine my excitement at THIS literally a few minutes away?

Quite liking the new Gladiators announced so far, Montelle Douglas as Fire especially

I cannot wait. I think its seems like its going to be much more in keeping with the original version, they learnt from the mistakes SKY made so not too bothered it being on the BBC and can't wait for it to start. Any Gladiator geeks you have to listen to the podcast GLADPOD I have been working my way through, such an insight.

Will Wolf be involved in SOME way? I know he’s about 70 now, but still.

Not thats been reported. I know a few of the original Gladiators were putting themselves forward for 'coaching' roles I don't think thats happened for S1...

Legend has it that there was a time when every TV show wasn’t presented by Bradley Walsh or Steven Mulhern.

That aside I can’t WAIT for this.

I am thinking they are not the right presenters for this, but I shall hold judgement. I didn't make it to the watch the final but I have not heard anything too negative from the FANZ. It is looking much much better than the SKY reboot so far

I think I’d have gone with Gabby Logan and Vernon Kay or something alone those lines. How many shows is Bradley Walsh even doing now?

Gabby Logan would be one of my choices too. Or Alex Scott.

I may have said earlier in this thread but for any Gladiator geeks like myself I'd really recommend the podcast GLADPOD - so interesting, its done by two superfans and Diane Youdale (Jet) and they interview everyone from different Gladiators, to contestants and the exec producer Nigel Lythgoe
