J. K. Rowling and other TERFs

I'm quite glad I'm not famous and therefore not expected to blindly follow the political misopinions of my first employer from 25 years ago

That picture of Joanne. Pure evil and not in a good way.

Also dead at DEAD ACTOR Robbie Coltrane in her SQUAD.

Oh to be a fly on the wall at the next meeting of TEAM JK at the basement they run MumsNet out of.

Hang on a sec, this public slander that :YesIHaveDone: is in any way transphobic

Jilly would undoubtedly welcome the local trans community. Provided they all register themselves with her as a matter of COMMON COURTESY

All she asks is that you put your wheelie bin out on the correct day

Oh no, not Jason. He was on my bucket list, not my shit list. I'll just go Google image him for old times sake one last time, then it's ovah Jason.

Allison Bailey did a fundraiser to lodge an appeal against her Stonewall case and then promptly VANISHED with the cash. Hasn't been seen since 2022! :D

To be fair to Isaacs, I don't think he has actively expressed any anti-trans views. His "support" of JK amounted to a couple of brief comments that he wouldn't slag her off even if he didn't share her opinions.

It might not be quite the trans allyship some would hope for, but I also think The Heil are scraping trying to find a "Team JK" member there.

As if trying to recruit from beyond the grave wasn't enough!

Isaacs believes he should only take a stance only after a frank, open exchange with Rowling. “So for all that she has said some very controversial things, I was not going to be jumping to stab her in the front — or back — without a conversation with her, which I've not managed to have yet,” Isaacs said.

He sounds harmlessly on the fence as befitting someone who's played a Star Trek captain

Yes, I saw that. Bless her for persisting while Brandreth was doing his "I can prove this, they're in this building" crap while she was like, um, cheers for the mansplaining but I've literally given birth recently.

Awkward haha, parents bought me Hogwarts Legacy for my birthday

Luckily just a code. They had no idea about the Rowling stuff (as they're not on Twitter much and don't read the Daily Heil) but once I said thanks, that's actually a surprisingly controversial game and told them why they knew I have trans friends and immediately offered that my dad would enjoy it (that's okay, I don't get on anyone else's arse for it) and they'd get me something off my steam wishlist instead. Lovely of them. Not all boomers lack understanding of these things :)

Not Dawn French too? Keep seeing her in the news feeds going on about "cancel culture" and being a friend of hers...

She's at the "just asking questions" stage at the moment.

Hopefully she has enough THE GAYS™ around her to get her back on track.

Outside of the defending Rowling bit there is some validity in her point that just screaming at everyone who doesn’t understand isnt perhaps as helpful as educating them.

I don’t think what Dawn French said was unreasonable at all, unless I’m missing something?

This is about a) her saying she knew JK a bit and liked her (which does NOT make her a TERF) and b) not to tell her to “catch up” but explain to her why she’d made mistakes so she could learn?

I think the latter, at least, is an admirable stance.

What’s going off with JK and Alsop? I keep seeing bits on Twitter but I’ve got Joanne blocked and shan’t be unblocking to find out and I thought whilst not really transphobic Kirsty had been on the ‘be kind’ logic prior to now

Not quite actually, she does still seem to try the ‘why can’t we have a rational and kind debate’ view, the problem being these are un-hinged freaks and that’s literally impossible!

”I remain a fan” LADY she called you a rape defender and set her cult of nutjobs on you.

And even that comment was probably based around trying to quell the vicious online response she's had. And I don't blame her for that.

Yeah, I think the "EDUCATE YOURSELF!" crowd you get around a lot of progressive movements are actively unhelpful.

Especially because a lot of radical conspiracy weirdos are specifically the result of people EDUCATING THEMSELVES on dodgy online sources.

The thing is, I hope that I'm a trans ally, but I know I could do more and I learn every day from other people (especially on here) and people telling me where I'm wrong. I don't think I'm there yet, and in some ways, may never be as every day is a school day, but a cry of "Educate Yourself" when I am someone who is coming from a place of love and allyship is, to me, entirely counterproductive.

Totally agree. And I think outsized reactions to that sort of thing are what pushes people further down the pipeline so I do hope people tread carefully.

Unfortunately too many people will just read The Independent’s clickbaity headline and go in.

I don't disagree with Dawn French's point, assuming she is in good faith just asking to be educated and being faced with the "no it's not our job to educate you, you're just cancelled" crowd. I know they can be a counterproductive lot.

Guess I'm just automatically suspicious when it's so often the first step down the rabbit hole, when it's running to the press based off one bad exchange that isn't necessarily representative of all young people, trans people or their allies, and when they start off with calling JK a good person. It all smells a bit "well I tried to understand but Jo's right, they're authoritarian speech police so.. #IStandWithJKRowling"

Consider me "one eyebrow raised", at least. Maybe/hopefully I'm just too jaded/cynical. But yeah just raising an eyebrow on here, I'm not having a go at anyone on X (I'm not on X, can't stand the place)

What’s the deal with this? I keep seeing stuff about it on Twitter and about how it’s illegal in the UK to post about it?
It isn't illegal to post about it in the UK, however, Rowling is very litigious and she is sending legal threats to anyone who says she is a holocaust denier, and most don't have the resources or willingness to fight it so just apologise.

This is a strategy she has used in the past, and a friend of mine (and I believe @Tetris-Rock) got a legal threat for simply directly quoting one of her tweets about child porn or similar, I can't quite remember the details.

Yeah, because she's so rich she issues what's known as a SLAPP - 'Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation". It burdens the recipient with the legal costs and demands a deposit covering the plaintiff's costs with immediate effect. She can afford this with loose change she finds down the back of the sofa, 99.999999% of people can't. She uses these to silence critics, knowing that the lower class people she insults daily can't afford to contest her claims.

Interestingly, the EU were looking to legislate to abolish them. But, even if that happens now, guess who won't be affected?

Robert Maxwell was fond of them, so was/is Aaron Banks so it;s quite the cunt's cavalcade who use this tactic.

Well fuck that

She cast doubt on a claim that that the nazis “burned books on trans healthcare”. As a claim it’s neither here or there as there’s not a lot to back up (obviously the nazis persecuted gender non conforming people).

This got extrapolated by certain people as being tantamount to holocaust denial.. which is a stretch. One of those being the commissioning editor of Novara Media Rivkah Brown who, when threatened with a lawsuit, tweeted an apology and retraction.

NB. Rivkah Brown is a joke journalist who regularly commissions and writes misinformation. She also celebrated the Hamas attacks of October 7th.
