Some high-drama debate over the merits of SANDRA

The "Strangers by Night" video is a work of wonder indeed.

The Perm!

The mulleted love interest!

The :su:esque woman working in the office!

Wasting hairspray as if the hole in the ozone layer is something that only happens to other people!

The shoddy panther/woman transformation shots!

The facial expression sitting on the barstool!

The convincingly butch bar brawl!

The hammy bartender calling the cops!

The police arriving wearing white socks and low-cut loafers!

C.C. rummaging in her purse for her ID, only for Mullet Man to provide it for her! (or something, I really have no clue what's going on there)

C.C. and Mullet Man walking off, to the idyllic backdrop of violent thugs being pressed against police cars!

The "Thriller"-aping 'monster eyes' closing shot!

The whole thing looking like it cost 37 Deutschmarks to make!

I had a bit of a MOMENT on public transport the other day to "Loreen", AKA 'how to rewrite "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" just enough not to get sued'

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/XbHQFnG7m-k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Sadly it came three years too late for there to be the possibility of That Loreen being named after the song. Though I did once see a German YouTube interview with her where she says how funny she finds it that people in Germany always call her 'Loreen' rhyming with 'been' rather than 'rain'. I like to imagine that's partly our Sandra's doing! :disco:

My recent Sandra Ann Lauer fave has been "Around My Heart", particularly in its 2006 Reflections - Reproduced version (that was apparently a massive airplay hit in THE UKRAINE).

I especially love how its flat-bed-truck-referencing lyrics sound as if they were originally written in German, then Google-translated into SWAHILI and from there into English! :disco:

I heard this in Retro bar on New Year's Eve

I wonder if that man got in trouble. She DID say she was cold!

Sort of on-topic - when I was in Berlin the other week we went to this really tiny and smoky bear bar at one point run by an older gent who didn't speak much English, and I remember being really disappointed they were playing recent chart/dance music rather than Sandra :(

Was she actually preparing to sing live? :o

She does have a tendency to want to HOWL ALONG with a backing track

Still better than Sam Fox :disco:

It's been back to back Sandra all day. Today I decided she is a SENSATION. I've just preordered yet another compilation, The Very Best of Sandra, double disc and DVD, tracks allegedly voted for by the fans.

She's also wheeling out a remix of "In the Heat of the Night" as a single to promote the new GH. It's subtitled the "Tropical Future Remix" so I presumed it would jump on the 'tropical' bandwagon of Kygo, Sigala, Jonas Blue et al, but no, it's just a general dull soulless dance music bip bip bip bop bop bop version.

I think I'm going to give the package a miss, compilation-wise I'm pretty well-serviced by the three-disk The Platinum Collection and she's only had the one studio album since then. Plus I already have nearly all the videos on the Complete History DVD, and I can think I can live without having the (undoubtedly high-concept) promo clips of her more recent triumphs as her Thomas Anders and DJ Bobo duets in HIGH RES.

I probably might have bitten had it included the towering album track "On the Tray (Seven Years)", upgraded to today's audio criteria. I've been aching for a properly remastered version of that one, the overly quiet audio on the original '80s CD of The Long Play (the only one available) just won't cut it

What a waste of time this compilation is and yes, a remastered 'The Long Play' BITTE. The original is like having someone whispering in a cupboard with a cardigan over their head :argh:

I don't know if owning a double Arabesque GH qualifies me as an expert. Cause frankly even I seriously STRUGGLE with titles like "Hello Mr. Monkey", "Fly High, Little Butterfly", "Don't Kiss a Crocodile" and "Jingle Jungle Joe"!

But you just can't argue with "In for a Penny, In for a Pound", the greatest song Andersson/Ulvaeus never wrote (though it sounds rrrather more like the ABBA of 1974 than 1981). Or the Goombay Dance Band-flavoured EXOTICA of "Marigot Bay" and "Zanzibar". Or the utter :disco:ness of "In the Heat of a Disco-Night", later turned into an unlikely Belgian Top 10 hit at the very start of the 2010s as sampled by Fake Blood in "I Think I Like It". Imagine my shocked face upon finally finding out the female voice on that critically-lauded club banger was none other than Sandra Ann's, multiple months after it had left the charts :o

What a waste of time this compilation is

Its only redeeming feature is arguably the long-due CD debut of "Japan ist weit", her German-language reading of Alphaville's "Big in Japan" that was a flop single a full year before the release of "Maria Magdalena". AND its all-original B-side "Sekunden", with an eardrum-piercing vocal that makes Minnie Mouse sound like Billie Holiday!

and yes, a remastered 'The Long Play' BITTE. The original is like having someone whispering in a cupboard with a cardigan over their head :grr:

:D A very apt description. Likewise for the '80s albums of the afore-mentioned Alphaville. But seeing as the business model of major record companies nowadays seems to be bleeding affluent nostalgics dry with reissues in any way possible, I have good faith we'll get upgraded audio in due time.

Well The Very Best of Sandra is now on Spotify, I'm on a workout rest period to it, and whilst there are loads of Sandra compilations already there's no denying that tracklist.

she is doing a concert here with sam fox and cc catch in a couple of weeks. my mate is organising it and i have put my foot forward to be her contact person on the ground. it simply must happen.

OMG! Three ICONS in one show! I'm surprised we're not getting Sam in the UK show, I am tempted to come down for it, but it is a bit MUCH I guess.

so i'm currently backstage at this lifetime event and will have the pleasure of taking care of sam and sandy *.*

i feel like my whole life has been building up to this moment you guys.
Oh my very goodness!

Tell Sandy to pop out another of those retro 80s albums ON PAIN OF DEATH

Can you give Sam a glass with a dirty lip print on, just for shit and giggles?

well this was not a very exciting experience at all.

at least i got an autograph from sandy from the whole thing.

i'm kidding. it was everything.

literally full. of. goss.

(not really)

OMG @ameraal, was she nice to you? Was she PISSED SILLY?

Tickets for that cancellation-guaranteed London gig seem to be selling like last week's doughnuts - and ones filled with wormsy cat shit at that - and no wonder: FIFTY FUCKING QUID for standing and EIGHTY FUCKING QUID for a seat? :D:D:D

I was thinking ÂŁ20 MAX!

Aren't we all, love?

I'm positively PUTRESCENT these days :disco:

I recently discovered C.C. Catch. Is this the same kind of (amazing) SHIT?

OMG OutSynk are you not familiar with Sandra? Only about a MILLION TIMES BETTER than poor dear sad old CC! I might have to do a top 10 if I've not done one already

Perhaps I have heard a song or two but didn't know it was HER. I was running out of Modern Talking singles to listen to (the album tracks are not worth bothering with) so had to move on to Bad Boys Blue and CC.:shy:

Oh don't bother with THOSE SLAGS (apart from 'Strangers By Night', 'Cause You Are Young' and 'Come Back And Stay' obviously). What you need RIGHT NOW are 'The Long Play', 'Into A Secret Land' and the Maxi-Version of 'Heaven Can Wait' :disco:

Cause You Are Young is incredible.

I will check those songs out as soon as I have had some decent sleep and have listened to some dark and brooding electronic music until I CRAVE for something SOUL HEALING and JOYOUS from the 80s.

I've still not heard a NOTE of CC Catch and this most be remedied. What are the CHOICE CUTS?

I've yet to start on my Arabesque odyssey and really didn't know where to begin. They've got multiple Greatest Hits albums which all appear to be DOUBLES :disco:

How our Sandy had the time to churn out so much teutonic pop goodness before really raising the stakes by ditching the other two, I DO NOT KNOW.

There are quite a lot of half-arsed and inevitably atrociously sung (:disco:) slops which are clearly Modern Talking rejects but these two are FUCKING IMMACULATE

I also have something of the perverse penchant for 'House Of Mystic Lights' :disco:
