Some high-drama debate over the merits of SANDRA

Oh, I do know Cause You Are Young and I LOVE it.

Clearly grabbed from the bottom of Dieter and Thomas's DUSTBIN but those STABBY SYNTHS would have given Neil Tennant PAUSE for THOUGHT

Did Den Harrow make it over the the UK? He was massive in Germany and Holland and regularly featured in various states of undress in my beloved Bravo magazine.

OH DEN

I just heard Sandra's DEBUT SOLO SINGLE on RADIOITALOPOWER which I've never heard before

It's ALPHPAVILLE's BIG IN JAPAN sung AUF DEUTSCH and Wikipedia reliably informs me that on release it sold a staggering 125 copies :D

Is anyone going to the SANDRA and CC gig in London? Annoyingly, it's the same weekend as Bananarama for which I have front row tickets for, or I'd have totally gone down for!

Some months later but I presume we all know that the sozzled old slapper cancelled her appearance at last year’s London gig (like the DAY BEFORE) because of some unlikely claim about an “urgent operation”, leaving devastated fans with STAR TURNS from CC Catch and FR DAVID

I knew full well that it would never come to pass so never bought a ticket but STILL

^ I'd be terribly disappointed if our Sandra didn't behave like that. Why would anyone doubt she needed an emergency operation? It's not as if she'd be lying hungover bedridden in her hotel room. Oh...

STILL OFFICIALLY BETTER THAN MADONNA (for the first three albums) :disco:

And have a stunning MAXI-VERSION while we’re at it

Simply SUPERLATIVE :disco:

I’m sure I must have done this before and am about to write the same old things - PLUS ÇA CHANGE - but I don’t care: it’s the 2018 REMIX :tongueout:

Maxi-versions where applicable SELBSTVERSTÄNDLICH :disco:

1. Heaven Can Wait - Absolutely fucking STUNNING
2. I Close My Eyes - I could listen to those chords AD INFINITUM
3. (I’ll Never Be) Maria Magdalena - :disco: at EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!
4. Sun In Disguise :(
5. Innocent Love
6. Around My Heart - Words don’t mean nothing but you will be mine :disco::(
7. You and I - Take the pieces of my heart, watch them all REARRANGE :disco:
8. In The Heat Of The Night - features proto-Enigma CASCADING STAR SOUNDS
9. Secret Land (Reverse Mix)
10. Just Like Diamonds - My tears are nothing more than a dream. Just like diamonds :(

An extra mention goes to the very lovely ‘One More Night’ as well as the ludicrously entitled ‘On The Tray (Seven Years)’. You can understand my blues as I’m trying not to lose ON THE TRAY :wired::disco:

Oh no, I forgot the PWL mix of ‘Everlasting Love’ which is the greatest PWL remix EVER but sort of doesn’t count anyway as the top 10 is (mainly) all about the Cretu (and of course the rich and creamy vox) :disco:

HERE IT IS ANYWAY

As usual that bit at 5:06 (preceded by the rather mournful chords) has just made me BURST WITH JOY

Oh QUITE RIGHT TOO! And it really is a mantra for life: God knows I always find myself saying that lovers by night SOMETIMES BE STRANGERS TODAY :disco:

SHALL WE? I must say that the video doesn’t quite live up to my own FAR MORE SUITABLE expectations of her staggering down the neon-lit Reeperbahn to the sizzling eurodisco beat with wild drug eyes and a ripped blouse and bra but I suppose that might have been a bit X RATED

ACHTUNG @Christian and other Sandra-Fans

Goodness me, isn’t ‘The Wheel Of Time’ album FANTASTISCH? I’ve been playing it all day and might have to whip up a rate :disco:

So, EN FRANCE this weekend I picked up a mint copy of Sandra's "The Long Play" on vinyl in a 1 Euro bargain bin (it literally had stickers all the way down from 20 Euro... :D :( ). More out of curiosity than anything else.

I have to say, I do like the two big hits, but it's better than I EVER expected it to be on the whole. The voice could still shred cheese, granted (or should that be "grated"? Or "grating"? Sorry...) but I've been tapping my toe quite happily this morning.

(I also bought a CC Catch pink vinyl Greatest Hits in the HMV sale last week for like £8 or something, which is obviously DEEPLY FABULOUS :disco: but then I knew about THAT already...)

I recently heard good old SANDRA and C.C. Catch back to back on German radio. The late 80s really equalled a special time in German music landscape.

STRANGERS BY NIGHT BE STRANGERS TOMORROW INDEED :D
COS LADY TONIGHT THE LIGHT IS FOOLING YOUR HEART and then some

Oh I think I’m going to have a Sandra afternoon, in chronological order, courtesy of Alexa to get me through work. I wonder how far into the catalogue I’ll get before having enough.

I think it all went downhill after Secret Land , which is her best album by far

I still dig out her 2012 comeback album from time to time. Voice like an emphysemic sparrow, but it really is better than it has any right to be.

^ That was only three years after her previous top 30 HIT album on the German chart parade but yes, it’s a good stab at former glories.

Some ambitious high notes on third Long Play single ‘Little Sister’, one for the live lip sync for sure.

ON THE TRAY
Just for seven years
It’s the same old fears in my HEART
You can understand my blues as I’m trying not to lose ON THE TRAY :disco:

Oh that absolutely is her best album although Close To Seven and The Wheel Of Time are also fantastic

I assume the word they were after here was SHELF but TRAY never fails to entertain :disco:

Also that one is a real highlight on The Long Play

There's not a dud in the Sandra catalogue until that ropey trancey album "Fading Shades". Michael had clearly been at the party favours in the local Ibiza clubz and thought he'd get hip. NEIN DANKE.

"Two Lovers Tonight" really is sensational isn't it? Sandra drowned out in the chorus of course, but WAS KANN MANN DA MACHEN?

:disco:

Michael Crétu really was a genius. There’s the incredible Wenn der Mond by Hubert Kah , and When Love is the missing word by Cretu/Thiers , and my absolute favourite but completely impossible to find now Dancing into Danger by Inker and Hamilton
