SCD Strictly 2019

Oh it's a poor list, true enough. But I think ITV needs to field something stronger against it to see it off.

Oh yes, The X Factor may garner back a few viewers for the celebrity/ all stars/ whatever the hell they are doing but it is a show that has clearly had its day.

I will be interested to see if the poor line up will affect the viewing figures though.

Is the X Factor All Stars a series or a one off show? If it's the latter, I think it could do rather well.

I think the celebrity version is the series as they have been filming in America. I have heard very little about the All Stars version.

I don’t think I’d be so bothered about the z-list nature if everyone was good and it was an exciting and competitive series. But when they insist in drafting in the middle aged cannon fodder from The One Show (etc), it’s hard to get excited. I suppose it’s probably not the easiest show to cast in that they need to cater for an older audience.

To be honest, I’ve never recovered from the daylight robbery that was Tom Chambers snatching Rachel Stevens’ glitter ball and the wound gets re-opened every year.

It's a really poor line up, but that won't stop it being a decent series, however I'm going in to this rooting for one contestant, which is a record low.

I think SCD is probably at the same point X Factor was at the end of the ‘00s where the audience was pretty much GUARANTEED but a good year would create a spike in the viewing figures.

I certainly wouldn’t write it off now. It’s only really at the end of the series you can decide whether it’s been a decent year. Joe Sugg and Stacey Dooley wouldn’t necessarily have stood out last year as potential favourites but it didn’t end up being a noticeably WEAK year.

Despite the fact that we had EXACTLY the same conversation about the line-up :D

Series 8, the series with the highest finale and average, was the one won by Kara Tointon.

There can’t be a single TV series (including soaps) whose average viewing figure over the last decade has shifted less than a million. And never consistently in either direction.

It is REALLY impressive.

I think the press went in much more with the weakest line-up evah angle last year in the build up too.

Admittedly this year does have the highest number of contestants that I have ever had to Google. It is probably inevitable that they are having to go increasingly niche with their casting though. The casting pool is getting more and more shallow, and the BBC don't generally like to go for people who have done the reality rounds too much (no DOI at all).

I do remember there being a bit of a fuss way back when (I think it was the Chris Hollins year with multiple Hollyoaks alumni) about the quality of the cast, but it doesn't look like that year was that much lower ratings wise.

If you ignore the launch series (fair enough I think, given it was broadcast in May-July and all the others are Q4), its average audience has increased 17% since 2004. In the same period, EastEnders has lost 48%.

Am I right in saying that they don’t usually touch CBB contestants? Michelle Visage has bucked the trend on that one.

The casting pool is getting more shallow, and surely if the fee is capped, that's going to limit it as well - and papers like the Express and Mail who will be the first to criticise the lack of names would criticise the BBC for spending more if it did increase the fee.

Plus if the BBC know that the level of celebrity has little impact on viewing figures, why are they likely to be massively bothered?

Dev Griffin was also confirmed today.

Anyway, Alex Scott is good casting. Definitely a BBC face on the rise. If the reports are right with Anneka and James Cracknell, they are both very much old style Strictly fare.

Also, if that line up is correct it means they have one more male celeb than female. It is usually the other way so even though Pasha left it seems quite likely that Neil Jones is left on the sidelines again.

And if you take it from series 8 (SCD's peak average), SCD has dropped 5.7%, EastEnders 26.2%.

I'll be borderline hysterical if poor old Neil is sidelined AGAIN

I can think of Lee Ryan and Vanessa Feltz (and Alison Hammond), not sure if there have been others. They will have I'm a Celebrity people but not if they have done it too recently.

It was maybe I’m a Celebrity I was thinking of then? I vaguely remember it being well known if a celebrity had been on a reality tv show then they were usually shunned by Strictly.

Anneka and Cracknell CONFIRMED IN and complete the line-up. It did seem they started and ended with the better names, and dropped the less stellar ones in the middle.

Interesting that there are no popstars this year (I'm not including Visage because for UK purposes she may as well have not been). The late 90s/00s pop survivor has been standard Strictly casting for years, and last year there were THREE. This year Tina Barrett was being bandied about by the tabloids, which admittedly would have been quite a low rent casting.

It's a pretty diabolical line up in terms of star quality, surely the worst by far, but as long as the people are remotely interesting and we get some competent dancers it'll be fine. Struggling to see who that's going to be, but then I don't know half of them so...

Joe Sugg was terrible but did well and got the votes and ratings weren't affected much. I can see why they're branching out a bit even if the names aren't exactly jaw dropping.

Thank fuck for Michelle - after thinking she seemed quite SPECIALIST she's in good company and it's someone to root for. But poor cow is still going to struggle for votes

Particularly when Anneka is there to split the more mature woman votes. I don't see both of them lasting long unless they are both properly good.

I just hope Michelle can do a decent job because votes aren't going to save her unless I'm severely underestimating the Drag Race fans. Most viewers are probably at least aware of Anneka.

I imagine Michelle and her dark and lusty looks with that tremendous cleavage could pull off a stunning if somewhat cartoonish Argentine Tango :disco:

She had those implants removed earlier this year, didn't she?

I imagine Michelle will have a similar trajectory to Anastacia when she was on it a few years ago.

According to radio times.com

So, although not confirmed, we’d advise getting your rhinestones ready for a 7th September start.

That's for the launch show, featuring a Kylie medley and Mark Ronson with YEBBA.

Obviously they want to keep selling the GH, even if a proper Strictly show closer to Xmas might be a better spot.

Presumably that is the next song they are pushing from the Ronson album then. It is all good, but that one certainly isn't my favourite.

That really is not all that long. I CANT WAIT!! :disco:

So according to The S*n (pinch of salt obv):
  • They've changed their mind about Katya being sidelined and she has a partner this year (or possibly they were previously talking crap and she was always going to have a partner)
  • Neil is going to get a partner at the expense of GORKA who is apparently too much of a SHORTARSE and is not called AJ or Kevin from Grimsby

Have we had demotions before?

I guess closer to the start date it's a little more likely these rumours are true.

Debbie from Grimsby did a year of extra bits on ITT after her first year before returning and winning.

Going back I think Darren Bennett and Ian Waite accepted a year in the short-lived troupe on their way out the door.

I did wonder when it was reported, if it was because he'd possibly asked not to have a partner because of wanting to be with Gemma and the baby. But the fact that he hasn't even tried giving that as a reason makes me think not.
