The Israel-Gaza War

The players in the periphery are going to be extremely useful right now. Past investments into Egypt, Djibouti, and even Pakistan, are going to pay off very nicely for any party trying to leverage their interests in this conflict.

Speaking of investments, now UAE is ”investing” a whole city on the Mediterranean in Egypt.

Meanwhile, I feel bad for countries like Oman who have just been minding their own business and thriving just fine.
Oman is an interesting country - it’s incredibly close to the UK diplomatically.

Oh yes, I read about this. Egypt is BROKE AS FUCK right now because Al-Sisi is building that stupidly expensive administrative capital for himself and his cronies and had to sell a WHOLE ISLAND just to keep funding it :D

If there's one country that will walk out a winner from this war, it's the Emirates. They built their state so that it adapts to any conditions. Unlike the Saudis, the UAE diversified their exports so that they're no longer dependent on fossil fuels; and they're slowly moving towards political and economic neutrality which makes them a reliable ally and 'anchor' in an area plagued by instability. AND it means they have way more political freedom than most ME countries.

If Israel loses the war, the UAE will go about business as usual. If Palestine loses the war, it will weaken Iran, the only real 'enemy' of the UAE - who prefer a much more secular approach to the ME than both Iran AND Saudi Arabia.

Trojan Horse? Egypt needn't worry; Qatar already owns half of London and they haven't been attacked by armed Arab Princes in the middle of the night.

Mind you stranger things have happened.

UAE should branch out. Dubai has been overshadowed by Riyadh's growth in the past couple of years; Riyadh has probably achieved in 5 years what it took Dubai 20 to do and while Dubai becomes known as a haven for European gangsters, Riyadh benefits from a more traditional take on Middle East capitalism. Riyadh's restaurant and art scenes are already the most exciting in Asia and they haven't even begun yet on their sporting ambitions. Who knew that oil depletions would be the reason for Europe and the Middle East finding some cultural harmony?

In what way? SA's economy is still hugely dependent on exporting fossil fuels. Its next non-oil export is nowhere near. It's put all its eggs in one basket. Meanwhile, UAE has a much more diverse portfolio and is heavily investing and quickly racing towards clean energy.

The UAE also doesn't come with the same political (and cultural) baggage as SA. They have much more flexibility to form/join alliances, trade, and negotiate with other countries of their choice.

Basically, Saudi Arabia is "Commitment" and UAE is "NSA".

Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the UAE in general has definitely not been been overshadowed by Saudi Arabia in terms of economic diversification. From the perspective of their openness to western business (particularly in the power house of financial services), Saudi is years and years behind the UAE. They cannot even get a pragmatic regulatory framework off the ground to make it possible for FS businesses to enter the jurisdiction.

US conducts another airdrop of food into northern Gaza, CENTCOM says

The US military conducted another aid drop into northern Gaza on Tuesday, dropping approximately 25,300 meal equivalents, US Central Command said in a post on X.
"The joint operation included two C-130 U.S. Air Force aircraft, and U.S. Army Soldiers specialized in aerial delivery of U.S humanitarian assistance supplies," CENTCOM said.
To date the US has dropped 891 tons of humanitarian assistance, CENTCOM said.
Remember: Humanitarian organizations have warned that airdrops are "good photo opportunities but a lousy way to deliver aid."

The last line lol

Gaza doesn't stand a chance does it, with this gross level of stupidy and delusion.
