I thought this was great fun. I didn't love it quite as much as Ragnarok (Natalie you know I love you dear but you're NO CATE BLANCHETT), but it's easily my favourite standalone Marvel since that one. I was happy to see the "Thor will Return" message at the end, and I hope it's another one with Taika.
Thor remains my favourite of the Marvel GANG, and here I found it refreshing how relatively slight the story was, and how it didn't have the usual (for Marvel) 20-40 minutes towards the end where I zone out completely because it's descended into CGI-battle slurry. I also enjoyed Russell Crowe more than I ever have in anything else, and Bale's villain felt like a cut above all the other boring man villains we've seen in these films. And the goats made me laugh every time they screamed.
I was happy enough with the crumbs of representation for the gays, but the next time Valkyrie's on screen she'd better have some sort of love interest (ideally an 18 stone bull dyke) because that did feel like lip service here. And even though it was hetero, I found the love story between Thor and Mrs Thor really sweetly done.
I didn't care for the black and white bit, and the first half was definitely stronger than the second.
