TV Ratings 2021

I can’t believe that many people tuned in to episode 2 of The Larkins.
I kind of can, in that I think it presents a view of Britain that Brexit voting twats will find comforting. And I imagine that demographic has quite the overlap with people who can bear to watch Bradley Walsh being Bradley Walsh for an hour.

Eastenders is falling way off the radar.

I wonder when it was last no.1. Probably who killed Lucy Beale, whenever that was.

Yes, even Janine couldn’t save it. I think it has probably got to a point now that they have no way back and will just keep tailing off.

I always thought The Cube was a ratings hit. I think it’s a LOAD OF SHITE, but for some reason thought it was BIG TIME.

Tv ratings are going to the dogs on a whole but BY GOD check those Strictly figures out! :disco:

52% audience share.

Going back a couple of decades it would be a 20m audience.

That's so terrible for EE. They need to sort out the time slots. Whats the reason for these 20/25 minute episodes now? It just relegates it in the schedules.

Eastenders low ratings is quite shocking when EMMERDALE is getting way more. I honestly don’t know anyone who watches Emmerdale.

Well Corrie's 'big week' didn't do much
I don't think any of the soaps get much of a boost from any big storylines/returning actors any more. With audiences so low I think they largely have their hardcore fanbase locked in and not many more that bothered to return for a specific event.

Ooh The Larkins has dropped another million week on week! :disco:

Is anyone else watching Angela Black? God I'm finding it frustrating. It's so slow. How they decided it was worth six episodes I'm not sure, unless things pick up hugely in the remaining two episodes, I'm sure it could have been a three parter.

Yes I am still watching, although I haven’t caught up on last nights yet. It is VERY slow, and my interest is also waning. I will stick with it but thought similar to you in that nothing really happened of note in episodes 2 and 3 that couldn’t have been squeezed in to a much shorter season.

I thought this week's episode of Angela Black was a more interesting than the previous weeks. I agree that it has been a bit too heavy on the filler in getting to this point. Michiel Huisman is quite dastardly (but hot).

I could do with a bit more of this, though

I tuned in again to watch Queen Janine return to Eastenders but honestly couldn't stomach more than a couple of weeks of the ATROCIOUS writing. It genuinely feels like it is written by student interns. Some terrible characters too. Tall Beale child/man is a TERRIBLE actor as well.

No surprises that it's suffering.

Those Eastenders ratings are shocking but presumably it still does well on iPlayer. I remember when it used to be a shock to see Emmerdale occasionally sneak ahead of it, but that seems firmly planted at #2. It’s not that far behind Coronation Street.

Those figures include iplayer for the 7 days after transmission.

Further figures are available after 28 days, but the soaps don't do nearly as well as dramas in that period. The last time I checked EastEnders does perform the best of the soaps, presumably as it has a younger audience. But still nowhere near enough to close the gap on Emmerdale.

I can't compare directly to the averages in the chart I posted previously due to not having access to the figures for every episode, but for the week of 4th - 10th October, this is how the highest episode of the soaps rated after 7 days and then 28 days.

Coronation Street 5.776m/5.950m
Emmerdale 4.991m/5.078m
EastEnders 3.830m/4.059m

Whereas Angela Black for example adds 1.6m and Hollington Drive 1.3m in the same period.

Thanks for this. That’s interesting - I would have thought catch-up would add more to the total than that. Soaps still seem to be watched in real time.

I wonder if that's partly due to the number of episodes now - if you fall more than a week behind, having all those episodes to catch up on may feel like a chore. And people may be more likely to just ask someone else what they missed or Google it.

It's not like a one off drama where you can box set it, see the whole thing and it's done - leave it another week and there are another four episodes minimum to catch up on.
