I had my booster this week. It definitely made the cold I had the week before come back/ get worse again. I had no symptoms at all though first time around.

Anyway, now TRIPLE JABBED and READY TO GET STABBED. Arsewise, at least…

Semi off topic but the flu jab has absolutely FLOORED my mum. I guess it just shows how bad the real thing must be, but it must be really frustrating to feel like you're going through the real thing!

Normally I have nothing other than a sore arm from the flu jab. This year there's been a plethora of accompanying ailments that I'm assuming is something to do with it reacting with the Covid jabs. I've had real flu once, I thought I was going to die it was so awful but even when I started feeling better it was the gift that kept on giving for weeks afterward. When Mr F had flu he developed alopecia and had four completely bald patches on the back of his head. It grew back eventually but was hilarious while it lasted.

Think she actually just happened to catch a bug (not covid) at the same time as I've not heard of vaccines causing gut cramping and diarrhoea..

Yeah it sounds awful.

Meant to be going to first beer festival since March 2020 at the coming weekend but got a feeling it'll be my turn for the bug by then

Trust the one who rarely leaves the house to be the one to catch a bug 🤣

If I get it I'll be phoning in though and asking for sick leave, WFH or zero notice holiday though. There are quite a few ill people at work going around spreading their germs because they feel they're "too busy" (and too important) for time off... nothing has been learned from covid :/

Going to Lndn on Friday and getting quite excited but have found out today that our school has had another two classes going down with Covid over the weekend. That's four since Thursday. :(

Wondering if I'll make it to London after this week.

OH I had that last week and assumed I’d just eaten something bad 🤔

And now once again the warning signs are flashing and experts are saying to bring back masks and the government are saying no. How many more times are this government going to get it wrong? They never should have removed masks for indoor use.

Agreed. Dropping the mask mandate was such a needless move - it had become part of everybody’s daily routine. It will be very difficult getting that back. I noticed the Business Secretary this morning didn’t seem aware that masks are still mandatory on TfL.

6% of all new cases are of the new variant so it is still relatively small and hasn’t been given a letter from the Greek alphabet yet. I don’t really know what we know about it yet, if anything? Is it as contagious as Delta? Will it bypass the vaccines?

Probably because tubes and buses just have signs and announcements, but absolutely no enforcement. When at least 50% of your passengers aren’t complying, what can be done?

Agreed - it is being very poorly observed (with no enforcement) but I would have hoped the government could at least remember that it is technically still the law.

The new variant has the same mutations as others that didn't end up a problem but I think they're questioning whether the particular combination could be a problem. Maybe something like 15% transmission advantage which is not an apocalypse but a ball ache.

Unfortunately whatever's happening, it's accelerating (doubling time now 30 days according to the Reddit boffins), admissions getting close to the 1000/day that was supposed to indicate restrictions being needed, more than 200 deaths yesterday, more than 50% of case are in over-18s etc.

Sorry for the stupid question, but where are these 40,000+ cases per day coming from?

Surely non-vaccinated people for the most part aren't going to be inclined to test regularly, and 'only' 1,000 of them are being hospitalised.

Is the rest a lot of vaccinated people catching it + school children?

Not an answer to your question, but this tests a sample of the population and works out prevalence from there, and is the more reliable measure of how much COVID there is about. It's a week behind the covid cases number though. (1 in 60 people in England, 1 in 45 Wales, 1 in 120 NI, and 1 in 80 Scotland)

There's not a day goes by where I don't hear of someone testing positive. And that entire sample population is children or parents of children.

I doubt anything major will be announced today, this will likely be the buttering up for something substantial in a few weeks.

I'm the Best Man at a wedding that's happening next month.

*tugs nervously at collar*

They’ve set themselves up for more protests if they try and bring in the softly softly tactics. As others have said it’s too late now. We could have opened up the economy and kept masks on transport and in shops for much longer while they country prepared for back to school. Shoulda woulda coulda.

I bet there'll at least be some form of modelling and "if you lot don't hurry up and get your boosters and the rest of you don't calm your tits with the massive indoor crowds while that's happening then we'll have to start considering some masks and stuff at some point"

I keep getting asked “so when are you coming back for a visit?”… well there’s lengthy quarantine periods on both ends and there are 40,000 daily cases in the UK, and in Japan, 400…

(On a side note I don’t know what the fuck happened here, it’s like Corona just gave up)

No it’ll be “we’re telling you now to get your booster jabs so that when we’re in chaos over Christmas and back to square one, we can blame all of you for not listening to our polite request”

Japanese people tend to follow logic

British people tend to follow cyber-Russian Facebook feeds.
