TV Ratings 2022

The seven-part singing contest opened with a huge inheritance of 8m (46%) from the closing minutes of The Masked Singer final.

It was unable to maintain this crowd, holding onto around 4.5m (29%) in its opening moments before slipping steadily to close with 3.6m (25%).

My chin hit the floor when I read the first paragraph. Reading further on seems a bit more REALISTIC for it. I think people would have tuned in out of curiosity and soon realised it was a load of old toot. I did.

Nearly half a million watching Sky News seems rather strong. I wonder what GB News was doing at the same time.

For some reason, GB News did not report figures to BARB. They certainly aren't the only channel not to, though. Occasionally I've seen the odd tweet, but not consistently.

Not exactly mind-blowing numbers for The Gilded Age, though I think it is on Sky Atlantic only and therefore not available for Virgin unlike most of that list.

Just been digging around on BARB after reading on twitter plenty of fans claiming how GB News is regularly beating Sky News now, strangely without quoting any sources. GB News don't seem to have reported to BARB since the week of 3 - 9th January, when the top show was Farage with 74k viewers. The #10 show was Dewbs & Co with 44k.

For the same week, the top show on Sky News was The News Hour with Mark Austin with 419k viewers. The #10 show had 145k, so nearly double the top GB News show.

The top BBC News 24 show in the same period was a News Special with just over a million - was that a Johnson related thing? But even ignoring that, the #10 show had 291k.

There’s no way 2m managed to navigate Channel 5’s my5 to watch Teacher.

They said at the end of The Bay tonight that it is coming back for a fourth series. Bit of a surprise considering the lukewarm reaction, but maybe it was ordered at the same time as the third.

All four episodes of EastEnders back in the top 50. The return to the top 20 is partly due to lower figures overall I think, but it is still slightly up on last week - and the top episode had over 4m, which I don't think I've seem for some time, Christmas aside.

That's a decent start for This Is Going To Hurt. I've enjoyed the couple I've seen but it doesn't strike me as a big BBC One drama hit.

There was quite the buzz about the book so I am not surprised its doing OK

The Masked Singer over 25% down on last year's final (9.953m), which was #1 of the week.

Do we think that's probably due to us being in lockdown at this time last year?
In part, yes. But falling from #1 to #3 still isn't great. And when you compare it to other shows, Death In Paradise was only down 7%

Do we have any further updates on how Drag Race did episodes 2 and 3?

The BARB website which includes pre-transmission data and non TV viewing hasn't been updated today for whatever reason. I'll wait to see if it updates tomorrow, but post the chart without that data if it doesn't tomorrow evening.

I keep on getting momentarily confused when I see Starstruck mentioned anywhere due to the two very different shows with the same name on at present.

Full figures now in so I'll edit the chart above later.

Drag Race UK v The World falls to 699k for the third episode. It'll be interesting to see if the Ant and Dec appearance has an impact next week.

The Rose Matafeo comedy only got 246k, unfortunately. Although that is enough to put it at #2 for the week on BBC3, which I assume isn't too shabby.

That sounds pretty decent. I do enjoy it, though I'm not sure if this run has been quite as good as the first. I have one episode to watch I think.

I'm a bit behind the times, but I do like Mum, which I have just discovered for the first time.

Which is nothing to do with viewing figures, I know.

Actually, it is, because it got at least one viewer in the last week!

DOI is surely on its last legs again
I think they announced it would be returning this year at the final last year. It will be interesting to see if we get another announcement this year. Surely it can't be a cheap show to make.

Edited the weekly chart above. No Return and This Is Going To Hurt being the main beneficiaries.

EastEnders creeping back into the lower reaches of the chart seems like a good sign.

Doesn't strike me as great for Chloe, no. But to be honest I never thought it appeared that commercial from the trailers, and it doesn't have a particularly strong pedigree in terms of writer or cast to hook people in.

The Bay dropped out the chart with 3.787m. I'm not particularly a fan of Morven Christie, but replacing her hasn't worked. But then I don't think either the main plot or the lead character's family plot are as strong this series as the previous two.

I'll be interested to see how both do when the 28 day figures come around. I'm wondering if Chloe particularly may get a significant boost then.
And sure enough Chloe added an additional 1.4m to end up at just under 6m after 28 days, so after that period would have been #6 for the week, rather than the #16 it finished at originally.

The only programme to benefit more was Trigger Point which gained nearly 2.2m, and comfortably overtakes Death In Paradise and Call The Midwife to win the week with over 9.1m.

Peaky Blinders edging out The Ipcress File then. A bit unusual to see the two competing Sunday night dramas quite close like that, though I expect Ipcress is more likely to drop viewers for the next episode.

Dancing on Ice creeping upwards just a bit.

The ITV soaps slot switch doesn’t seem to have harmed Eastenders at all even though it is pretty much consistently head to head with either Emmerdale or Corrie. I am thinking that is mainly down to the fact that people don’t watch things live anymore?
