As much as I'd love to see the UK progress under a momentum style hard left socialist utopia its clear the PROLES don't. Sir sexy Keir is probably best placed to win back the hearts and minds of the voting public and lets be honest, centre left is still better than far right.

It's just so embarrassing that the Tories have had TWO female Prime Ministers and Labour have never even had a female leader (apart from acting) and now they are going to pick YET ANOTHER MAN over four women. :manson:
 
But surely it’s more important in these instances to choose someone with the convincing aura of a leader, rather than trying to redress a gender imbalance? I’m not seeing much of said aura in anyone apart from Keir. Obviously Emily (for example) is fabulous on the knowing looks and hauteur front but she doesn’t exude party leader AT ALL!

Also - call me shallow - I think a strong name is fairly essential. That double barrel round the wrong way thing is truly awful and Nandy sounds a bit like Nando’s or Pandy as in Andy :(
 
You know the S*n would just be itching to roll out the headline REBECCA WRONG BAILEY at the first whiff of a cockup.
 
I heard Jess Phillips on the Off Menu podcast and kinda took to her. Then I read a bit more about her actual politics and behaviours and OH FUCK OFF NO NO NO.
 
There is something sadly inevitable about Labour's centrists saviours championing Jess Phillips as the FEMINIST LEADER WE NEED for years, only to abandon her at the last minute because a man is a safer pair of hands.

I really don't look at that list and see Keir Starmer as being head and shoulders ahead of any of the women alongside him, but naturally, the things that rule out those women (say being a swot or a member of the ~liberal London elite~) won't rule out a man.

That double barrel error irritates the hell out of me. It's horribly clumsy. Most double barrels sound like a small chain of solicitors, but Long-Bailey is one you'd avoid.

I mean really I'd have loved POWERFUL NORTHERN LASS Ange Rayner to be standing but really, as it goes ALL THE WOMEN STANDING (with the exception of sadly toxic QoL MAMA T) are UTTERLY SHIT!

My MP has switched allegance from Clive Lewis to Emily Thornberry

She's just determined to be on the losing team.

My MP is HEDGING HIS BETS RATHER SAFELY and going on a STARMER-RAYNER ticket.

In fairness, considering his performance in the election, he's got to be looking at a promotion of some sort, so he'll want to be on the winning team.
 
My MP Kerry McCarthy is behind Starmer as well. But then isn't Thangam on his campaign team? I don't think Kerry would want to incur her wrath.
 
I don't understand why politicians do this. Same with the leader of the Greens saying that he didn't support halal slaughter. Its like, why would you alienate members of the electorate, especially if these views are not going to become policy?
 
Whilst it’s unfortunate that Keir is not female, Long-Bailey genuinely has the potential to completely sink Labour as a viable political party in the eyes of the electorate - and turn us EVEN MORE into a 1-party voting system (as least in the short term).
 
She voted for women's reproductive rights in Northern Ireland, so I don't think she's an anti-choice NUTTER. You'd probably find a large portion of the electorate disagrees with people being allowed abortions to full-term even under extenuating circumstances*.

That said, I'm always uncomfortable with religion influencing politics... A strike against Becky LB.

* Not me. I'm pro-choice, and actually think women should be able to abort beyond the gestation period if the kid turns out to be a dick.
 
I'm not feeling enthusiastic about any of the choices. Even if I don't think Nandy has much of a shot in this race, I'm planning to vote for someone who'll offer a different message and seems to be most capable of winning back the Red Wall. Labour can't win an election without it.

Long-Bailey is too tainted by her closeness to Corbyn and his advisors, but in my eyes she's marginally more capable of winning in these places than Starmer or Thornberry, who would seal the transformation of the party into a vehicle for professional class Remainers.
 
I'm worried about what a relative nonentity Lisa Nandy's been prior to now. She talks a good game, but WHO IS SHE?
 
Oh sure I knew the name, but of all the candidates who announced, she's the only one about whom I struggled to remember what she stood for. Maybe it's just me though.
 
Maybe her schtick isn't working. I propose she rebrands as Lisa Nando's. that'll get the voters in. The slogans write themselves.
